Randolph Scott was the best Western movie star ever!

I grew up during the time when most American TV dramas were westerns. I hate westerns - TV and movies. They glorified guns and killing, and the slaughter of indigenous people - a time in U.S. history we should be ashamed of.

Not much better now, with every other TV show a crime drama and most movies of the "Action" genre. Why do Americans love watching people being killed?

Art following life, or life following art?
30,000 gun deaths PA give plenty of plot ideas………… if an 'action' film needs a plot beyond that?

As an English boy in the late Fifties and early sixties the “Wild West” wasn’t “real”. It wasn’t meant to be real. It was always fantasyland. We played “Cowboys and Indians” with cap guns with much enthusiasm. But of course the place didn’t really exist. The scenery was just impossible.

There were black and white western serials, and almost every week, regardless of the story the same position for an ambush, and the same rock outcrop where the villian was caught appeared.
