I picked it as Oz, straight away, but couldn't identify the track. Turns out Broadford is bikes only - so hasn't had a lot of exposure... no big events there. Some nice machinery in that video. Apart from the age of the bikes, it looks a lot like our Friday Ulysses Club rides in Thailand ('cept we're on the open road)

    Maintenance time...

We go through plenty of filters, brake pads and given that some renters are clutzes, clutches. Down the list aways is shockies. We've done a few - but the standard Honda ones are cheap. From memory, it was about 2,800 baht for rear shocks (one per bike) for a CRF and a 500F last time we did them. That's about US$80 each.

My personal CRF - which I also let go out on rentals if I'm not using it, is fitted with Ohlins suspension - a vast improvement over stock, but about US$800 to install. The rear shockie on my bike was weeping oil by the end of the season... so, we took it to our favourite suspension technician.

Here's some pics of the rebuild

Bit dirty in there. Rebuild overdue

Rebuild cost US$142 - parts and labour

McQueen is the icon of all riders. he remains the ideal. He is a reason why many including me wanted to ride.

Many of our friends who ride still try to look like him even after 50 years.

All my friends wanted to be Bud Ekins.

ETA: not really. We all wanted to be younger motorbike idols, like Jeff Ward.

    King Kenny was great.

Schwantz and Rainey were also spectacular. Schwantz was robbed of his 500cc title in 1993.

Reg Pridemore vs Steve McLaughlin of Butler & Smith BMW R90S racers in the first AMA Superbike championship. Both were excellent flat track racers as good as Roberts but maybe not a daring. Steve won by a whisker at Daytona to Reg's dismay which nonetheless became the Series champion that year. They brought BMW motorcycles back to AMA racing and reignited the brand in the 1970s.

Hard to believe they got 100hp out of the #83 airhead. Even with more power and better support, Mclaughlin still beat Pridemore. That was some riding.

Nicky Hayden was magical too. Also a dirtbike maestro. What a joy to see him ride. Killed in a bicycle accident in italy training.

I witnessed him outride The Doctor - Rossi at Laguna Seca all weekend long taking the US Grand Prix with great heart.

You guys are shunning the rest of the motorcycling world.... most of us were only interested in the Daytona 200 when it came to the USA. The TT and world circuit were what interested most of the civilised world

Helmut Dahne did more to bring BMW back to the forefront

Kenny, with the Aussie who mentored and steered him to the top. Kel Carruthers, the '69 World 250cc Champion. Kel did the same for Eddie Lawson.

form follows function. Hard to keep on the stand, to control once in the curves and has questionable stopping power.
    Requires experienced riders.
