Default Half Finished Haven 12 1/2 - Questions

Hi - I have just acquired a Haven 12 1/2 project which was half finshed and I have some questions about the best way to proceed. The hull is all finished and was pulled off the molds but no stretchers were ever installed. The boat is now upside down on saw horses and appears to have retained its shape reasonably well. I believe the next step is to flip it over and install the sheer clamps.

Before I flip it over I was planning to try to install some stretchers but wondering how many and where. In addition, if I do find any change in the shape of the hull, can I correct it at this stage.

Any thoughts , ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Are there clamps/beam shelves installed? or any other interior structure? Two stretchers would be normal and a good idea with stresses while turning, cross pieces a little longer than the spans with blocks fastened to them inside and out tight to the hull and screwed into the top of the sheer strakes. I'd think you could make some adjustment at the sheer if it is out of fair or compressed, depending on things like clamps, etc. as above.

If you didn't get a set of plans with the hull, I'd suggest getting a set to help you check the hull shape as well as guide you through the rest of the build. And while you 're at it, get a copy of Maynard Bray's book "How to build the Haven 12-1/2" - both available at the Woodenboat Store. Pictures are actually worth a thousand words...
And to answer your specific question - yes, now is the time to correct the hull shape if it needs it.

Bob and Thad - Thanks for your input. Bob - Yes I have the book and set of plans. I like your idea Thad about the cross peices with blocks inside and out. There are no clamps/beams installed. Its upside down now so I plan to install these, flip it and transport it to my barn. After that will evaluate the shape and see what needs to be done before installing the sheer clamps.

Hi Thad - I was wondering about these screw holes into the top of the sheer strake and whether they will be visible later on?- any thoughts on that would be welcome.
