    Default Priorities and defense spending

John Delaney this morning was asked about our rising debt. He found the ONLY area where we can save money would be healthcare.

Far as I know, we are still building very expensive tanks and planes no one wants, so they go from the assembly line to the scrap heap. I'll wager the cost of a single tank or a single plane would pay for one hell of a lot of food stamps.

Don't tell me I'm opposed to having a strong military. I'm all for it, but building equipment the military doesn't want and no one buys is a waste of money.
How do we form a mutiny? Our new captain is navigating poorly.

If you're expecting honesty and integrity from a Republican, I've got some bad news for ya...

He was first to declare his candidacy, has a whopping 1% of support and isn't smart enough to pull out of the race. He is possibly the one Democrat in the race who is more stupid than bone spurs.

Defence procurement has been a minefield of cost over runs and dodgy accounting foryears here. At present we ar supposedly building a dozen French design subs. I warrant they'll be obsolete before the first one hits the water. Of course by then we may well be a Chinese satrapy rather than an American one……...

Carriers are hugely expensive to build, outfit with aircraft, and protect with escort ships, the 13 billion each is the tip of the iceberg as far as costs go. They are quickly becoming obsolete when dealing with anything but second or third rate militaries, heck north Korea could take one out with a nuke, they are useless against China has nukes, Russia has nukes. I can think of a lot of better places to spend that money.

The total budget for the F-35 is approximately the same as Russia's annual GDP. The last time that an air superiority fighter made a real difference was during the Korean conflict. DoD procurement decisions are made by defense contractors via their "donations" to Congress. That money would be more wisely spent on cyber-security and infrastructure protection.
