Default 1970 Mirror dinghy CL steal!

Picked up this great nearly 50 year old Mirror, with all equipment and trailer w/ spare tire on rim - for - get this......$25! Craigslist Cleveland - I thought surely this must be a typo!

Nope, the lady held it for me until I got there after work and I drove it 40 miles on highway back home to Akron area - unbelievable! I think that makes 7 sailboats for me now! Yikes.....had 2 Mirror's in the past - great little boats!

    That is indeed gloat-worthy!

Only 7? You show remarkable restraint I think.

    Wow! You win!
I've paid more than that for almost every individual part of a boat.

Spinaker? A local collector of wooden boats (15 all restored) has been experimenting with assymetrical spinnakers om mirrors. Dispenses with the whisker pole.

No, did not come with spinnaker unfortunately - but at $25 bucks, I am not too disappointed ! I do not plan to race her - more of a training boat for my girlfriend's 10 year old son....he needs some nautical distraction / direction!

Cool! When he starts to "feel the need for speed" check out Duncan's thread on the Mighty Pippin. He sets a tiny asymmetrical on a sprit and she bloody well flies!

Just a quickie update on the bargain Mirror - took her out last Saturday for first sail - very minor (and I think "typical") leak around front of daggerboard trunk, but otherwise all ok - forgot how much fun Mirrors are to sail - light and buoyant and move on a whisper of wind!
Did a quick light sanding of the deck areas and applied a coat of spar varnish last Sunday - really spruces up the boat! Will apply some epoxy around the leak area, and do a sand / varnish down in the cockpit area later this week once the rains move out of NE Ohio.....hope to sail it well into the late summer and fall season!

    Some pics.....

NICE U\I'm quite jealous! There were only a few of them built here in the NW US and I have #52019. Mine however needs a bow transom, part of the stern transom insert, breasthooks, the entire portside plank, several holes in the bottom repaired and new in/outwales. But the rig and foils are perfect

Damb! Yes, with a b for emphasis.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Lovely boat, lovely tale, and lovely end use. Score doesn’t even begin to describe it.

    Peace,
    Robert

Thanks Robert! Appreciate your kind words - having owned 2 other Mirrors many moons ago, I have always liked these little boats - never imagined I could pick one up in this condition for $25! I seem to have good boat karma!
    Cheers!

Ouch, that sounds like a bit of a "project boat" for sure! Not that many Mirrors around the Midwest either....happy to have another one!

4 of the 7 are wood, and I paid a grand total of $225 for all of them! Haha.....crazy boat bargains

I am reading a book called 'The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow', by AJ Mackinnon.
Through England and Europe in a Mirror Dinghy. For real, I'm pretty sure. Wonderful.
    Congratulations!
