Default Loch Morgan photos from 7/17-21, Humboldt Lagoons State Park

Here's my Facebook Album of photos and videos from this year's Loch Morgan -- a private boat camping event held every year up in Humboldt County. This year we not only had the usual treasure hunt, but celebrated the life of Tony Smithers, one of the event founders and a boatbuilder, gambler and fencer of great renown.

Got it in one! My friend Tom Asdell's "Junk Box", with a new plastic tarp sail to replace the painter's tarp one he's been suffering with for years.

Thanks, Ted. I certainly don't know about all small boat events around the world, but this one may easily be unique on many points -- particularly the treasure hunt on Saturday.

Looks a great event Thorne, how long has it been going?

My sailing club hosts a Classic Wooden Dinghy Regatta over a late January weekend. This year will be the 7th., but it is a renstatement of a regatta started in the 1800's.

Last year we had round 70 boats on the water, including 22 of one revived class from the 1950's. The second boat of the class has been restored and is still sailing. The designer at 90 sailed that boat that he built in 1956. In the foreground with the top Hat. The Australian Sailfish.

And yes we do have a treasure hunt and a treasure chest, and for the older pirates, Pussers rum, also buried in the sand.

Skuthorp - looks like a lot of fun with a long tradition behind it!

As a public "Messabout" Big Lagoon has been going for 12 years or so, but started at least 5 years earlier with a group of friends just showing up and having a good time -- before my time, as I'm not a Humboldt local.

P.S. It DOES carry a reaching boom that can be stabbed into the clew and wedged against the mast, or suspended on a snotterlike contraption. Bonus points: the sprit makes a fine pole for poling along in shallow bits, too.

So glad to get the sail on Merryrows finally. What a treat to sail her after pulling sticks for ten years. Thanks Bruno, (sailing Salamander the Penobscot 14) for the support, shop space and assistance to get her to this place. Now for all the fun tweaking, fiddling and Sailing!
