I put it back in EBay in the buy it now/best offer format.
Keep throwing it at the wall until it sticks.

Just my opinion, but if I were selling that boat, I'd physically deliver it to a broker in Maine, or maybe Mass. That's where the market will be. Most boaters in other places wont understand that boat.

    Good luck, in any event,

Kevin, I believe you are very correct, and it may come to that.

Pretty hot down here in the Low Country this time of year. I’m looking at several boats in the NE. A road trip to deliver the Rambler to a new owner might just be doable.

    Just sayin......

No bites or nibbles on the boat so far, and I’m growing impatient about not having a boat to use here. If she doesn’t sell by the time Catnapper is in the water I may pull her back in the shop and make some changes to her to make her usable here.
Pull the westerbeke, yank the driveshaft and strut. Cut the keel off. Cut the transom down and install an @ 30hp outboard.
I could sell the diesel, shaft and prop and probably pay for a good used outboard.
Might even make the boat more sellable around here.
My wife and I went to look at an Albury in Charleston yesterday. She said she liked the Rambler a lot better and couldn’t see spending $45K on an an Albury.
I’m going to run some tests to see how she does at higher speeds (15 knots). If those prove successful I’ll move forward.
The 2 inquiries Ive had on her have both inquired about the feasibility of installing a bigger engine, so obviously 6.6 knots is a deterrent to selling her.

Thank you. We really do love the way she looks. To answer your question, yes. 6.6 knots just isn’t enough for what we want to do with the boat. We’ve got 2.5-3 knot tidal currents here. We want to use the boat to go several places for lunch, dinner, run an errand or go to a secluded beach. Not very practical if I it takes 3+ hours to go 15 miles.

I’ve been ratcheting the price down on EBay. Getting a few more watchers, though nobody has thrown a bid in yet.

This just makes me so sad.

Because I’m really far away and don’t have a spare 20-odd gs laying about.

Seriously, good luck. Worst case scenario, you get to build another boat?

    Peace,
    Robert

Maybe a search for "Dispro" boats would show more. I don't know what problem it would solve, though.

I think to make the rambler faster would require a reshaping of the hull from mid ships aft. Maybe a couple of big wedges essentially increasing in thickness as they went aft, perhaps even extending aft of the existing transom with a space in between for the outboard.
This is very hypothetical and just based on some reading I’ve been doing.

Yep. Ebay, so you never know. Buyer(?) is in Falls Church VA.
And I’m looking at some Steirgercrafts up your way. If this deal actually happens I might be shopping in your neighborhood.

Thanks, I will take you up on that.
Buyer hasn’t sent his deposit yet. Has until tomorrow morning. I’ve used ebay extensively, never had an issue before, but I’ve got a feeling on this one. Hoping I’m wrong.

Just spoke the the “buyer”. Nice guy, but he didn’t place the offer on the boat. He has an ebay account, but hasn’t used it in several years. Somebody was able to hack into it and place the offer. He was quite surprised!
I can’t figure out how someone hoped to gain something by this. I spoke to ebay and they are refunding my selling fees. I did relist the boat with them for 7 days.
    What a PITA.

I had a similar thing happen when I had Venti on ebay.
    The hacker re-listed my item...
Can't imagine what they would gain from doing that either.
Just getting a kick out of aggravating somebody I guess.

The price was dropped with the broker as well and there are now 3 separate inquiries about the boat, One of those names was quite familiar.

Well despite all the compliments no offers have come my way. There’s a boat I am very interested in making an offer on, and I think I can use the trailer under the Rambler for it.
I know I can sell the Westerbeke and possibly some of the parts off the Rambler to recoup some of my investment. There is obviously little to no interest in the hull and I won’t burden my friend by keeping at his place if its not on a trailer.

Viking Funeral perhaps? It’d make for a good video to post as an epilogue to the build thread.

Viking funeral would be sad. Donate the hull to a school like the one in Cape Fear? The students there could repower or alter it someway for thier use: http://cfcc.edu/martech/boat-building-school/

Not lack of interest, here, Bud. Lack of cheese, and spatial separation preclude me from biting. We’d LOVE to own and use such.

I honestly vote you keep her. Use her for those meandering days, when all you’re trying to do is boat about. I mean, you ain’t gonna work forever, right? And, there will be days you’ll merely want to toddle about, right? In that lovely boat you built...

And, I mean, she looks so nice there.

    Peace,
    Robert

Understood and thanks for the kind words. If I had the space....
I think access to $$ is root of the problem. I see a lot, and I mean a LOT of $200K boats going by my place all day long. I used to think, “wow, I do OK but I certainly cant do that”.
Turns out they all get sold on these 20 year loans. To me that’s insanity. A 20 year loan on something that’ll depreciate 50% in 36 months. . When it comes to toys if I can pay cash I don’t own it.
Well nobody’s going to loan a dime on my boat, and “Murica” runs on debt.

    Anybody got a match?

Okay, if you seriously get desperate enough to torch the bare hull, PM me, and I’ll rent a trailer. What’s another derelict boat in my yard?

I know how you feel, though.

It’s easier when they’re kayaks. To kill them, I mean. Sort of.

    Robert
