Default TSCA Chapter for Juneau or SE Alaska

    Hey,
I am interested in organizing a chapter of TSCA for Juneau or perhaps all of SE Alaska. Is there anybody out there interested?

I am interested in mess-abouts, small boat cruising, community boatbuilding, and historic small craft documentation. I have a few friends interested as well.

Holler at me if you are into it and live in the region.

    Thanks

It's simple. You just need 5 of your boating friends to be national TSCA members, submit a boilerplate set of by laws and then you get to mess about in boats as official TSCA members. That provides insurance, you'll get the Ash Breeze, our quarterly magazine and be a part of a neat organization that supports small boating with over 30 chapters in the US and Canada.

    Jim,
I just joined the TSCA, but I hosted a few events years ago when I worked for The Center for Wooden Boats down in Washington. What I like about it is that it can be as intense or laid back as we want.

A couple of ideas I have had include:
-A messabout in conjunction with Juneau's Maritime Fest
-Traditional boat race around Douglas Island
-Bringing a kayak building instructor to Juneau in conjunction with UAS
-St Ayles skiff (or similar) community boatbuilding/rowing project
-Documenting SE Alaska built small boats and boatshops

I am excited to hear other ideas too!

    Spread the word to friends!

Pub rows can be fun if you've got several places that have guest dock space -- we do those at least once a year down in Oakland, CA. The Oregon Coots do "Library Messabouts" and other events that focus on the shared interests but don't require a boat.
