A wonderful class of boat. I had two of them.

Are they challenging to sail singlehanded?

They are designed as a 2 person racing dinghy - lightweight and with decent 119 sf sail area - answer would depend on your abilities, and conditions you would be sailing in....I sail a Fireball solo on occasion - which is a very fast 2 person boat - I have been sailing for many decades. I am sure you could sail a Windmill solo, if you are an experienced sailor, and the winds are not too crazy. This boat seems like a good deal with decent trailer and sails and all equipment included!

You can easily sail a Windmill single-handed, and you can also flip a Windmill and that is no fun single-handed.

We went from 8th overall to 11th in a Windmill Mids by flipping on the last leg of the last race and watching the whole fleet sailing by. Great fun.

I asked because I have a Club Flying Junior that's a bit much for me alone, mostly because of the flukey winds on the lakes around here --so you go from sitting dead idle to planing and scrambling for the jib sheet with your feet hooked under the hiking straps in about twenty seconds. I wondered if it was a similar ride.

This is my last built Windmill in The Southern Championship in Grand Lagoon Fl.(32) harbinger winning southerns.jpg

I built the boat for my son and with me as crew he won the Southerns. This was the first composite (Ply, glass.epoxy) Windmill. I designed it for the Class and especially for that building method. Sailed plenty of boats big and small and a Windmill is a favorite.

I sailed two of those regattas, Tom. That is actually a fantastic place to sail since you get the sea breeze and not the seas.
