Default Do you know who this guy is?

OK, so, I'm a 67 year old grandfather... which, virtually by definition, means that I can't keep up with culture, especially when it comes to my daughters and granddaughters.

So, younger daughter Stacey is in Cannes, France for a week, on business... and posts this picture with some dude....

...who is he? I have no freakin' idea... she had to tell me (and then laugh at me, of course).

So, here's my challenge to the rest of you: do any of you know who this dude is?

"Reason and facts are sacrificed to opinion and myth. Demonstrable falsehoods are circulated and recycled as fact. Narrow minded opinion refuses to be subjected to thought and analysis. Too many now subject events to a prefabricated set of interpretations, usually provided by a biased media source. The myth is more comfortable than the often difficult search for truth."

I'm 66 and still hoping to be a grandfather, but I still have no clue who he is.
I just asked my wife, who is much more 'hip' then I am, and she doesn't know either.
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

OK, now I know his name, but I had never heard of him before, and still haven't got a clue who he is.

One of The Fugees, a hip hop group, and a producer of some acclaim.

I think he has some of those music award things...

    Wow Amish Rob, I'm impressed!

I had to google him. I know nothing about the hip-hop world.

Oh, I still remember the moment I heard “The Message”, which was the first “real” rap song I heard. Since that moment, I have been a fan of rhyming songs over improvised, compiled, or manufactured beats and rhythms.

I find extemporaneous rapping to be a high form of art, especially when it is rendered in person about whatever. I find the telling of human stories in rhyme scheme as compelling set to music as in tights with tight iambs.

Of course, there is a LOT of rap I just cannot abide, but so it is with all musics. I like metal and rap and country and opera and classical and blues and jazz and world and whatever all, provided the person who wrote the song has the right message.

    Which message?

    Look at the human, being.

I have heard the name, but for some reason I thought he was reggae, not hip hop.

92.8% of all those cats are. They’d step on grandma’s neck to get ahead. Or ditch their groups...

    My son says no.

Norman, neither of my children recognise him either.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

But not this time. Norman says yes.
Me. I have heard of the Fugees, and that is the sum total of my knowledge on this topic.

Yeah, I knew I wasn’t. Not only have I actually met the dude, twice, I saw a picture of him in Cannes on one of my wife’s feeds. I saw him in that very shirt. So, I was doubly sure...

But, yes, I know who he is, and what he’s done.

    Peace,
    Robert
