    Paul bailed.

But to anyone who hasn’t watched, it’s pretty powerful stuff.

Powerful stuff. The public square would be better off if he were still a part of it.

I really miss his show. But maybe he’s doing more good this way. The Republicans do their own satire these days.

I’m trying to find a list of names of the Congressmen who were suppose to be in those empty chairs but so far no luck. Anyone know who they were? The ones too busy to do their jobs?

Here is a list of the committee members if that helps at all.

edit: this NPR article suggests that the 8 Dems on the committee were in attendance.

Later in the hearing, subcommittee Chairman Cohen defended lawmakers' attendance.

"My subcommittee, every single member on my side, which is eight of us, have been here today," Cohen said, adding that other committee members were present in other committee meetings or visiting with constituents.

I don't know how accurate this is, but from a comment on the YouTube video.

The names of all the members on the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties that were not present at this hearing. Remember when they are campaigning for re-election.

The bill that permanently authorizes the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund passed out of the House Judiciary Committee unanimously on Wednesday.
Looks like Jon had a bit of an impact.

Let us never forget the G.W. Administration changed the EPA report, which is why Whitman decided she'd spend more time with her family.

After lying to the first responders, it took a full decade to give them help, and that had an expiration date. Then the battle raged again, and they gave more help with another expiration date.

Which is where we are now.

Once again, someone in the government LIED to the people (with deadly consequence) and NO ONE went to jail. Is that really free speech or should it be negligent homicide?
How do we form a mutiny? Our new captain is navigating poorly.

I wouldn't condemn them until I knew how they voted.

Right. The responsibility for this bill is but one of many. No one can be two places at once.

Also, no sense in preaching to the choir. If they were already on board, they may well have had better things to do.

Although perhaps it's more about the optics and getting the issue back into the public consciousness. If Mr Stewart had simply called for a new conference to give the same speech in a hotel ballroom it would barely make the news if at all, get on TV and scold a gaggle of congressmen and women, and now everybody's talking about it.

And he's right, the congressional response up to that point has been deplorable.
