Default We've done it! We sailed Taleisin across an ocean

I hope this is the right place to post this. I know a lot of the old timers around here is quite interested in what us young whipper snappers are up to with this little boat.

If you don't know yet, we've sailed from New Zealand to Tonga. We're very proud of our achievement. We've written about it here: http://taleisin.com/the-post-most-of...n-waiting-for/ we hope you enjoy the read!

It's 3 parts because we were worried that it's too long for the attention span of the average person today. Fear not, we'll post the other parts over the next 2 weeks.

Wonderful. Glad to see the boat still being used the way it should be.

Congratulations I did that passage from the Bay of Islands back in the 80's aboard the topsail schooner R.Tucker Thomson.

Do tell about that long oar tied to the bowsprit.

That long oar is our backup outboard (also known as a sculling oar). We can use it, but we're not in good enough shape to use it regularly yet.

Would love one, but that's quite a bit down the list of things to do/get. From what I can gather you have to get them JUST right or they don't work too well. Then of course there's the problem of storing it, not sure if it would fit as well as the oar!?

Can't find you on Facebook it would help if you gave a link to that, looks like you're a writer... Okay by me but, doesn't stack up well for the "must see" crowd...

The links are on the site, obviously I need to look into making it more obvious.

Yes I'm a writer and a photographer. I realise that videos are all the rage, but we're limited by what we can do on this small boat and it's also 100 times the amount of effort. The piece I just wrote took around 12 hours to complete... While I enjoy writing, I can imagine videos taking up almost all our free time.

Is there a gallery of images? I'd like to see a bit more of your lovely sailing vessel.

    Thanks Jay!

We meant to look you up last year when we were in PT for the festival, but alas friends took up all our time. Maybe next time we're in town we can find the time.

You can find a flickr link on our blog and also a new Instagram page. But the best way is to ask google images, there's plenty of pictures of her on the internet. We don't curate a gallery...

Have you considered running your drogue out astern?
Keep it away from your bowsprit and importantly, take the pressure off your rudder.

Nice blog, seems like a challenging passage. Well done.

We might not make it to the Festival this year due to family priorities. But some fine day we will, no doubt, meet.

Incidentally, I am married to an Annie as well! Annies are amazing people! "Bright Star's" Annie can reef, hand, steer, cook and varnish! What more could a wooden boat ask for? She and I are lucky we both love wooden boats!

Sounds to me like we should just let the Annies meet. They might have more in common than we do...
