Default 1606 DUYFKEN replica built in Western Australia

Back in late 2016 JimD posted on this little replica ship he saw in Geraldton WA. in his post he said he was glad she had not apparently been spoiled by auxilliary engines down below, well she was, two of them in fact. They are required by insurance and all that jazz, In late 2017 she was pinned down in her berth at a yacht club on the Swan river during a severe gale and suffered serious damage resulting in the stbd engine room flooding. The trust resorted to crowd funding and raised more than the required sum of money to re-engine her with a new pair of engines.Duyken Engine 1.jpg this is the drowned engine

I've been aboard that ship. Hearing of her misfortune is surprising given she has been built like a brick shi* house. I knew one of her shipwrights, but have lost contact over the years.

It's never going to get pooped, is it!
Makes you wonder what they were thinking, way back when she was designed.

In historic times 20 years was likely the working life of such vessels.

We sail past her regularly on the Swan River. I have been known to call out, not very loudly, “my boat’s older than your boat.”

Childish, but it amuses the crew, or maybe just me...

    Here are some recent photos.
