Over the course of eight months in 1980 and 1981, "Trailside Killer" David Joseph Carpenter murdered six women and one man along trails in Marin and Santa Cruz counties. Many of the women were raped. An eighth would-be victim survived to identify him. Carpenter is on death row at San Quentin State Prison.

Wayne Adam Ford was born in Petaluma and working as a long-haul trucker when one day in 1998, he walked into the Humboldt County Sheriff Department in Eureka. In his pocket was the severed breast of a woman. He confessed to killing four women and was sentenced to death in 2006.

    I don't think so.

Pro-life in some quarters is not about pro-life. It's about punishing the pregnant girl for getting pregnant.

bobbys is pro-punishment. Its a christian thing.

Alaysha reportedly told a paramedic “I’m dead” before she died from a gunshot wound to the base of her neck.

It's not like California was ever going to execute any of them anyway, probably save a lot of money with this action.

Excellent point. It's not exclusive to Christians, not does it apply to all Christians, but those who honestly believe in an allegedly perfectly just God who tortures people horribly for all of eternity because they didn't think the right thoughts when they were alive - It does incline one to vengeance, I'd think.

Come to think of it, I do have a moral problem with vengeance as such. The idea that one somehow balances cosmic scales by doing evil to one who has done evil, that suffering pays for suffering, seems to me fundamentally wrong. Punishment to deter others, sure, if it works. Locking someone up so they can't do any more harm, even killing them in really bad cases, absolutely. But pure vengeance, inflicting suffering purely as punishment, to somehow make up for the evil the person has done - for all that feels right in the more primitive parts of the brain, I think it's not. It's a judgement thing. The "pro-life, but pro-capital-punishment" crowd believes that they have the authority to decide who is innocent and should live vs who is guilty and should die. It's about self-righteous power, not morality.

Manafort has been pretty much given s love sentence in that he will die there.

Now I'm not defending him but is this justice or vengeance? .

It seems libs here have cheered so it seems like vengeance ..

Have those that cheered not played God?

i have been to Pelican Bay a few times. I shot some of this footage. Many of the death row will come here.

    Hey bobbys,

You forgot to mention Mary Vincent..

She was a 15 year old hitch-hiker when Larry Singleton picked her up, raped her, cut off both of her arms with a hatchet, and threw her off a bluff outside Modesto, CA. She somehow survived. Singleton got 8 years in California for that. He had to move to Florida when he was released because so many Californians were outraged at his lenient prison term. He killed a woman in Florida a few years later, got a death sentence, but died of cancer prior to execution.
