Default A traditional Dutch boat for grandchildren

Gerald de Weerdt built a small boat for his grandchildren, a halfsize shipboat like the boats from the thread "Cruising the sands" in 'People and places". After an article in the Dutch magazine "Spiegel der Zeilvaart" others wanted the boat for their own grandchildren and he drew the plans. They are free and Gerald ask builders for a donation to his building project, see www.deWillemBarentsz.nl and Facebook “vrienden van de Willem Barentsz”.
The little boat is built with one 18mm plywood sheet and some 3,6mm plywood sheets for the sides. He used leftover oak from the big ship for the rest of the hull and his wife sewed the sails from very light cloth. At the moment several are built in The Netherlands and I am getting involved in making the sails together with the builders. Mail Gerald for complete plans. weerdt6@zonnet.nl

I agree, to have a father or grandfather who built a boat for you!

Dont know, you are probably right. It would not surprise me if the size was determined by what was available. Like the spars are broomsticks.

Bertha and Rob, thanx for your comment.
Second boatie is well on its way, and I am asked to do the sails. Btw, the lapstrake blue beauty on the background is indeed a Norwegian Folksboat. Frank

Really nice. Now I have to size up all the scraps I have laying about.

Have not yet grandchildren myself so have to wait at least 8 years before I can start, said Gerald to me. ( His garandchildren are 8 years old). Maybe I can finish my other projects in time.
And thanx for your comment, Dave, Hasta.
