    Schooner Article......

Many years ago there was an article about the man that built a pretty good sized schooner from scratch and took many, many years to complete it. But he finished it, it sailed and it was stunning. I hear he sold it after that and has since passed.

Does anyone remember particulars? The year and month maybe? A link to anything?

    Thank you.

Do you mean the doctor who built a Malabar in Texas? It was recently for sale, but I don't remember the issue number.

Dolores M Jackson? Elizabeth Muire? I remember a few of those articles but not sure which one you're talking about. Got anything else to go on?

No other than that it was 15 maybe 20 years ago..... Elizabeth Muire rings a bell....although that lists as built by a yard.

There is one happening in Nova Scotia right now. Have you seen this project ? Pretty awesome...

I saw Lena Blanche last year. Brought my plans over, sad and discussed boatbuilding with them while looking over my plans then walked through Lena Blanche and talked more boating. The rudder post is all wood and incorporated into the rudder, or rather, the rudder and post are made of a single piece. Interesting arrangement. She's nicely built and they are doing a fine job of starting another smaller schooner at the same time.

Wow! I hadn't seen that project. What do they intend for the vessel?

I didn't ask. Maybe I should have. I was more interested in how they get to where they are rather than where they're going. I'm at the need to know how to get there rather than the what to do it it once I have it place.

I thought of Pilgrim, but she was a good decade earlier. Bob Sloan and Spike Africa also came to mind, but she was even earlier and Bob passed without having sold her.
