Default 60's bands you never hear these days.

Just been listening to Family's 'Family Entertainment' for the first time for yonks, and wondering why they are so little known these days. On a good day they could blow Hendrix off the stage.
I knew them as the Farinas when I was at Leicester School of Art from 1962; they were the college band then. Still love Roger Chapman's voice!

Roger Chapman was unique and should have gained global fame.Argent and in particular Russ Ballard never achieved the success that their ability merited. The thing is there were so many more who had talent but missed the success that should have gone with it.Whether it was the record pluggers, the A&R men or the archaic British broadcast world that limited access to eardrums so many slipped through the net.I remember hearing Alan Freeman interviewed more than forty years ago and his incredulity at the state of the BBC's acceptance of the music of the times.Or rather the lack of it.

^ Perhaps you don't hear that one much in America, but it seems to be on the radio all the time here in the UK.

We have a couple of TV channels which frequently run documentaries about 60s - 70s bands and artists, and they replay old 'Top of the Pops' and 'Old Grey Whistle Test' shows from the period, so most of the popular Brit bands get quite a lot of airtime.
There is also a BBC radio show called "Sounds of the 60s"..

Here too - it's on very frequently. I still love it!

Seekers are also still played a lot here. I haven't heard Peter, Paul and Mary for a while though, or The Monkees.

Question Mark & the Mysterians was the very first live music show I went to - age 13 or so? Long time ago.

I definitely hear some of these bands on the radio - though the # of songs played is minimal. Procol Harem is mostly limited to Whiter Shade of Pale & Conquistador for example.

I'd add the Moody Blues to the list - except that Tuesday Afternoon is on often.

Did Procol Harem ever do anything other than AWSOP and Conquistador?

A really obscure lot I remember from college gigs were Rev Black and the Rocking Vicars.
I thought the guitarist was fairly good at the time.
Just looked them up- he was a bloke called Lemmy.
    Yep, Hawkwind and Motorhead Lemmy.
