    Default 34M batteries

I’m looking for dual purpose batteries for my Redwing 18 with 20hp Honda and minimal house requirements. 34Ms seem appropriate and a little smaller, than other options. They also appear to be the recommended starting battery for the Honda motor.

Anyone with any experience with this size AGM?

A group 24 is 2" taller, but otherwise the same dimensions. Because it's such a popular size, there are more options available - many for a lower price I think. A bit higher AH rating as well. 2 lbs. heavier.

If you can fit it - might make sense.

I’ve been wondering why the 34m is mentioned so rarely. In my case, I’d really like to save the inch or two in height but I suspect I’ll end up with Group 24 which I’ve used in other applications.

I use a pair 34m ( Optima Bluetop) aboard my powerboat. On my second pair, actually, having got 10 years service out of the first pair.

Are you using the starting or dual-purpose version of the bluetop?

The dual purpose. D34M , I believe, is the model.

i bought a group 34 AGM starting battery for my truck from advanced auto.
i dug through the racks for the freshest one (manufactured one or two months prior)
it was made in germany. it's been holding up very well.

their website often offers 20% or 25% discounts for purchasing online and picking up at the store.
you can buy the item minutes before heading into the store.
they also give you around $10 for the old battery, so the price ends up pretty good.

Good tip! I probably have to go up there anyway as northern Minnesota seems to have ruined my car’s battery.
