Probably a rare event to find enough ice in Holland these days.
I wonder why they had a clinker built hull- safety if the ice gives way?

Just love those gaff rigged iceboats. With scooters a close second.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Didn't the Dutch also have the ice equivalent of sailboards many years ago too?

The hand held skate sail used with regular ice skates is a pretty old concept, but I'm not sure about the board sail type. We had one long close reach a few years ago on one of our local lakes where we were sailing our two-seater Arrow iceboat and about 25' to our right was a guy on one of the sailboard types and about 25' to his right was a guy with a skate sail - all running parallel in fairly light wind at about the same, maybe 20 knot speed. I always wished I could have had a video of it.

In march 2018 they were also sailing, but don't know about this year. Fortunedly there is a dedicated group of volunteers for the maintenance.
We really miss a good cold clean winter. 20 years ago we had one, the ice lifted our 20 ton boat that we were living on quite a bit and when a crack in the icefloor started it rang (the sound) through the boat. We got used to that. Best thing was I finally did a skating tour through the region, over 160 km in a day. Ofcourse I was younger then.
