Default I just found the answer!

    I found the answer.
For all the people that ask me why I moved from a well populated area to a small outport in the middle or the Atlantic, hours away from all the "modern" amenities.

Thanks for that, Steve. It felt good. I'm getting ready to leave the world of "what's expected of me" for something I chose to do. I expect not many actually do that. I'm coming to realize it's more of a case of envy than of anything else.

I always look back at my time on the rock with fondness. I spent about 6 years there and I miss it when I come across something like this. I swore to my parents I was going to live there but life had other plans.

or fall asleep to the crickets chirping.. or sleep/wake to the wind in the trees.. and always, night skies dark, as nature made them.

No b'y, that's definitely not me. That's a great band called Buddy Wassisname and the Other fella's. I only wish I had the talent they have.

Nice video. Pretty much the reason I have lived in a rural part of Scotland for the last 35 years instead of Liverpool.

Ditto here-however I look forward to winters, when the tourists have gone and it's locals only.

One of my views today. I took a bit of time off working on the house addition and we went for a quick spin on the snowmobile.

Is the place and people anything like that portrayed in The Shipping News?

I used to love those trails on cross-country skis. Out here I can only see snow in the far distant, but the boating is softer. / Jim

Absolutely. Where I am is like going back in time 50 years socially. No locked doors, everyone is helpful and looks after their neighbors. On the flip side, everyone also knows your business, which is fine for the most part.

I have a copy sitting on my desk. There are some terms around here that don't seem to be covered, mostly old English I think. Off the top of my head:
Deck on a house - bridge
    Highway snow plow - flyer
    Underbrush - browse
Box of a pick up truck - dump
Hood of a car - bonnet
Yard of a house - garden

Steve, in your list I knew bridge, browse, bonnet and garden. Flyer is new to me, and apt, if I may say so. Dump is what we around here call the garbage tip.
