Default 20 foot Tall Beacon Knocked Down by Storm Seas on Lake Michigan

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

I wonder how old it was. Anchoring bolts rusted out?
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

Looks like the bolts were fine, Rich.

By what I can tell from this screen grab from this followup report, it looks like it was made of fiberglass. I might not have posted this had I known that. I had assumed stone, brick or cast iron since original reports had dated the beacon, " since the 1870s."

This at the end of the Hyannis Harbor breakwater has been toppled by storms once (I think) since I've been here. It survived Hurricane Bob.

Back to the OP, Getting the shot of the wave that took the beacon was remarkable. Clearly a pretty rinkey-dinkey little beacon.

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
