    Default Quote of the Day

“White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?”
    — Rep. Steve King (R-IA), quoted by the New York Times.
If he doesn't know, then nobody will be able to explain it to him.
"Reason and facts are sacrificed to opinion and myth. Demonstrable falsehoods are circulated and recycled as fact. Narrow minded opinion refuses to be subjected to thought and analysis. Too many now subject events to a prefabricated set of interpretations, usually provided by a biased media source. The myth is more comfortable than the often difficult search for truth."

And the scariest bit is that he thinks grouping the first two with 'western civilization' makes sense.

Sorry Ron, you haven't seen the half of it yet. Paul Manafort, Mr. Trump's campaign manager and now convicted felon, by an incompetent editing job on documents he released, admitted colluding with Russian intelligence to influence the election. Have a nice day.

    Iowa reelected him.

    https://www.npr.org/2018/11/13/66726...says-otherwise

Rep. Steve King, the Iowa Republican known for hard-line stances on immigration and for controversial remarks, challenged a conservative magazine to release audio to prove that he had compared immigrants to "dirt."

    So The Weekly Standard did.

Found this four yr old article about him. He’s sayin’ what some people in Iowa are thinkin’.

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/the...-of-steve-king

Brent Siegrist, former Republican Iowa House Speaker who served with King in the legislature, is familiar with these tactics. “I’ll say this about Steve: Most of his controversial comments are the kind that you might say are off the cuff. They’re not. He’s a bright guy,” he says. “He knows what he’s doing when he’s stirring the pot. And he likes that.”

The episode reveals the method to King’s madness — how a rank and file congressman came to call the shots on one of the most important issues of the modern era, much to the chagrin of his own party’s leaders, who worry that alienating the increasingly powerful Latino community could shut them out of the White House for a generation.

Iowa, like a lot of places, has a huge rural-urban divide. Mr. King's district has no large cities, but lots and lots of farm country. But he's still a flaming *sshole.

FWIW, the major difference between blue Minnesota contrasted with Iowa and Wisconsin is that Minnesota has one large metropolitan area with over half the states' population

Nah, Manafort ain't talking, if he does the Russians will kill him, and if he doesn't el presidente will pardon him....seems like an easy choice.

I wonder if King’s political future will follow Trumps. King can’t play the race card forever. Previous elections he won by huge margins, this time by 4%.

What does he have to say, Ron, that you figure would make Russians want to kill him?

Does it matter? He ain't talkin'. Or so Ron assures us. And when has Ron ever been wrong in his analysis?

The scariest bit is that so many of TRump's base are proud to be white supremacists/white nationalists. That includes a few on this forum.

Could it be any clearer that the radical-right fringe has been emboldened by TRump's election and have become increasingly loud and proud?

I simply cannot understand why any one can be proud of something over which they had no control. No one asked them for an opinion about where their mother should give birth.

So let me get this right. Manafort is not going to talk because the Russians will kill him.. yet there is no evidence of a collusion between The Donald and the Russians? Exactly how does that logic work?

Steve King expresses thoughts shared by some of our Forumites.

Hillary Clinton was correct to label them "deplorables."

The definition of stupid has got to be the belief that more guns will negate the bloodshed done with guns.
