    Default Aussies... a question.

Why is it Macca's and not Maccies? Almost every other AU slang ends in 'ies', but not this one?

Probably better to have a sanga anyway. Maybe with Barra and mayo.

Yep. Ray Kroc started McDonalds in America, but the name 'Macca's' is a uniquely Australian name for the place.

Or BBQ sauce, which seemed to be on all the breakfast sandwiches or toasties we tried. Finally found a place that would make them fresh without 'sauce'.

Australia does have great coffee and, apparently, the flat white is only available here and in NZ.

Suffixes added to abbreviations are supposed to be influenced by linguistic comfort or habit, so 'a' is added to some words in Australia and 'ee' is added to others.

It sounds like an appointment with a dietitian might be a good idea .....

A toasted bacon and egg sanga without BBQ sauce? That place should be shut down immediately......

You might think something like '.11 kounder' (k=kilo ounder=pounder)

Australia is very much a metric society, although I'm not sure how long they've been that way. But you'll find Imperial Measurement references still bouncing around there. The popular Holden "El Camino" sometimes have a 'one tonne' badge and can be known as a 'tonner'.

Of course their ton is not the same as our ton.

I was shopping for a small trailer to pull behind a Ford Transit van, and many of the advertisements I came across, especially on GumTree (it's like Craigslist), had specs listed in feet. Such as 8ft long and 5ft wide.

While looking for a nitrogen regulator everything I found was in KiloPascals, but the LandCruiser I hired had tire inflation instructions in PSI.

Talking to one of the local pilots I was surprised they report elevation in feet. I forget to ask them if they adjusted their pressure altimeters in inches of mercury, or in hectopascals.

Anyhow, the place will keep an American on his/her toes. That's for sure!
