Default Elon, lay off the blunt!

I arrived in my lap today to find my technicians trying to thaw out a Tesla model X that was frozen shut. Getting it into the lab in the first place took some creativity and acrobatics. The car got thawed out and one of them inadvertently hit the key sequence for the Christmas Dance that is an Easter egg.

oh come on now, you're telling me that if you were writing code for a car with that level of automation you WOULDN'T write in something that makes it do a little dance?

They all do that? I love it!

In their defense, my Subaru doors freeze in New Hampshire as well. It is a huge pain in the butt.

    That’s ain’t stoner work. That’s nerd work.

Stoners would have used good music, and programmed an auto-drive mode trip to Taco Bell.

I ventured forth from my winter warren in the far wilds of Northern NY a couple of days ago, turned onto the state road, and saw an odd vehicle coming at me, heading north. At first I wasn't sure, then as it passed I said right out loud "Jesus K-riest, thats a Tesla Model X!" I have never seen any Tesla north of the Thruway, this aint Starbucks and arugula country here, I could not have been more surprised.

I have seen a Model X before, last year in Sedona AZ, and there it looked right at home among the Maserati's and G-Wagons, but HERE? Not so much. If there is anywhere more likely to freeze-up those crazy doors (talking to you, Michigan!) I'd be shocked.

Maybe the effort involved in creating the Easter egg might have been better directed towards improved engineering, in Tesla cars.

Maybe letting whiz kids do a fairly harmless thing is a cameraderie and team building thing that feeds the kids' whiz, the creative part that eventually works toward the bottom line.

Cool Re: Elon, lay off the blunt!

My old VW bus did that once back in the 70's.
I decided to wait until I came down to drive it.

    For you Tesla owners...

ACTIVATE TESLA’S MODEL X “HOLIDAY SHOW” EASTER EGG

    • Press and hold the Tesla “T” for 5 seconds
    • When the “PLEASE ENTER ACCESS CODE” prompt appears, enter the code “holiday” or “ModelXmas” and press “OK”
    • A prompt will appear that reads “The show will begin after you exit the car, close all doors and press the lock button on the key. The show requires 6 feet of space above and around the vehicle.”
    • Step out of the car and enjoy the show!

Could have been my nephew who's living in Ballston Spa for the last few years. He had to show off the dance to everyone that was around the car after he got it.

Good choice, and I sympathize. A racing buddy was, high on acid, going to take his little BMW out to the track for some hotlaps. I hid his keys. I've heard rumor, though, that riding a motorcycle on MDMA is entirely doable, perfectly safe, and quite enjoyable. Or so they say...

Yep, apparently one of the engineers left it queued up (after the car thawed out) so that the next person to hit the lock button on the fob started the show. Practical joke.

Wait. One of your techs “inadvertently hit the key sequence for the Christmas Dance”? Really? You think that was inadvertent ? Doubtful. He knew the code and was just waiting for the chance to use it. Well played.

Oy. That makes me want to go find a nice clean 1965 Plymouth Valiant, with no electronics other than the AM radio. I won't , of course, but still . . . .

Cool story, but you do indirectly bring up a thought.

I have some speculative concerns about Elon. He is obviously a genius, but doesn't appear to have a rev limiter and seems to operate in the red line every waking hour. It wouldn't surprise me if he is going with some fuel additives like adderoll or the like. Whether that's the case or not, he pushes it to extremes and I'm wondering if he can hold up over the long term.

There is a Tesla Model X that parks in the lot at work. To be honest, it looks better head on than it does from the side. It has a little of that Easter Egg look from the side just sitting there.

Maybe, but we’re 150 miles north of Balston Spa, I hope there’s a charge station around here somewhere

    I am with you.

Having recently replaced a comparably simple, "power doors and window module," to the tune of $300 for just the part.( A simple switch would have sufficed to open and close the window;but noooo-ooooo, we need integral multifunction modules...)
