    Default Planes on local CL

These came up on CL. There seems to be a logo on one, does anybody recognize the maker(s).
    Are they complete ?
looks like the handle on one is broken near the base. Seems it would be readily repairable ?

just because they are old, are they worth the money ?

The jack plane is old, with the key hole rather than kidney shaped hole in the cap iron. However it was a cheap plane when made with that beech tote. A good fixer upper and user but probably not special,

The smoothing plane looks really interesting, with the logo on the body and iron being consistent.

I don't know the makers mark, but looking at EBay, $50 for the two could be OK, $5 for the jack plane and $45 for the smoother.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Look like good "working" tools...not collectors. Eclipse seems to have been sold by Montgomery Wards pre-war. Probably decent steel and should clean up fine. http://www.timetestedtools.net/2016/...-than-stanley/

For 50 bucks its hard to go wrong if all the pieces are there. Keep in mind that Stanley and Sargent made planes for lots of retail stores like Sears and Monkey Wards.
Take them apart, clean them up and tune them. The steel in the irons will be better than most new planes anyway.

They look to be complete, not well cared for but restorable.

nothing special about the planes, nothing special about the pricing. in the lower 48 working planes like those can be found at lower prices, sometimes much lower.

I am pretty sure that the smoothing plane is a Marshall Wells. MWHC Zenith brand. I have a #5-1/2 jack with a corrugated bottom with the same logo on it. It works very well.

If you need them, buy them. You might be able to get them cheaper elsewhere, but shipping would be a killer.

    Oh, I dunno.
Marshall Wells had enough pride in their product to etch their trademark into the body as well as stamping it into the iron. That goes for something.
