Why am I overcome with the sudden desire to kick you in the shin? That’s a lovely spot, there.

        Peace,

wow, that is a beautiful location (in the summer!). must be a large lake to accomodate the large ship in the pic.

^ That is the steamboat "traffik". It goes to the "island of kings" in the lake during the tourist season. The lake is connected to the Gota canal system, so even living in the middle of the country, i have access to both coasts, Stockholm side ,the Baltic, Finland, Estonia and Russia or the Gothenburg side, Norway, Denmark the North Sea and Atlantic. Apart from the winters, not a bad spot to live.

Middle keel slab was finally glued up today. Must have spent at least an hour of that time standing there stirring epoxy and fillers.

Still a very interesting series of threads. I read about Atkin's Matthews Sailor maybe 50 years ago and have wanted one ever since.

All I have to contribute is the umlaut that you couldn't type in the lake name some years and threads back. Vättern Hold [ALT] while typing 132.

Was the Matthews boat a box keel? Not seen that before, but sure i have read Atkin write about Matthews.
It did have a box keel. I just told you that in March (#24 ). I have never found much about it other than the article I read somewhere around 1970 and the description of Sunnie which Atkin said was a larger version of the MS.

None of the ascii things work on my wife's laptop (windows 7). there is always Link 1 and link 2. The second link has different pages for various languages that give different characters for the same ascii code. That can't work, unless there is some obscure setting to change. Oh well, off topic anyway. âäàå = alt 131-134

So not a great deal happening construction wise due to sub zero temps. Im slowly getting together the parts for laminating the stems and aft end of the box/shaft log.

The rear knee also has to carry a horn timber and therefore the transom, so it has to be quite a lump considering through bolts also have to pass either side of the stern tube.

                        PICT5956.jpg

As usual, lots of details to consider before fitting, still undecided about full completion of the keel layers, or to join the bottom layers with ballast after hull completion.

As luck would have it, the stern tube is the same thickness as my laminations, and by using a 9mm ply pad, i was able to get a perfect run, making it easier to fit the tube. Dry run.

The ply spacer and sides have been epoxied onto the slab. I can use this layer as a guide to drill the other laminations accurately, above and below; easier to do in pairs than all 8 layers and i do not possess a drill bit long enough anyway.

Too cold for more bonding. Took the cardboard skin off the original scale model...

The "box" transition was going to be simplified by using a tape seam joint, but using the framing system i want requires i fit floors, which means not a continuous tape.

                                PICT5975.jpg

The frame floors will extend out to the sides of the hull, these can be fillet bonded at the contact face just like a bulkhead might be.

                                PICT5977.jpg

That is the current plan anyway.........

EDIT: I will probably use gusset on the frames, i drew them like that for my own clarity....
