I think the whole assault bit is dumb. Acosta should have been decredentialed for his hectoring and filibustering of the President, who is under no obligation to even give a press conference. Acosta and the scum he works for seem to have forgotten this. They've bitten the hand that feeds them. CNN itself should be barred indefinitely.

Yes, we know how you feel about a free press and Donald being above the law, but give us your thoughts on the Antebellum South, and the ‘Good Master ‘ theory.

Interesting that even Fox News is voicing support for CNN's lawsuit against the White House!

Fox News responds to Acosta lawsuit with statement of support for CNN - Vox

    From the linked article:
The statement of support comes from Fox news Execs while the on air "talent" spent the past week trying to justify the While House position.........
If war is the answer........... it must be a profoundly stupid question

I think this is a lot of commotion over nothing.

Why didn't Acosta just go to his car, change his shirt, put on a hat, and come right back into the press conference??

Yeah. The judge said that the decision to pull Acosta's pass was capricious and arbitrary. It had more to do with the lack of due process, while the arguments on the underlying Free Speech issues continue to be argued.

Trump likes to "punch back," so he might decide to call on Acosta in order to do the humiliation thing. I don't think he has the personal discipline to shun Acosta, if he's there in the room.

Big question : will the White House simply ignore the judge's order?

White House finally admitted doctoring the video. Would someone please explain why that's any different than a car dealer turning back the odometer?

Is there a law that requires press conferences? Can the White House use a different invitation only venue?

He will call on Acosta and both will grandstand. Third grade boys.

The decision seems right and proper, but I still think Acosta was acting jerky to get a rise out of Trump. I'm old school and would prefer that reporters tell the story and not seek to be part of it. There was a BBC reporter who said the same thing but much better, but I can't find the link.

    I would tend to agree.

However, in Acosta's defense, Trump filibusters nearly ALL press questions, so SOMEONE has to demonstrate that the press simply isn't going to be Trump's lapdog.

Actually, the method I'd prefer the press to use is this: if Trump filibusters a question, then the next reporter should ask the SAME question... and on down the line... demonstrating to Trump that he cannot get away with refusing to provide an answer to the question.

Absolute nonsense. There is no requirement to answer a question. Freedom of speech includes the freedom to refuse to speak.

Absolute nonsense. The issue isn't Freedom of Speech. Framing it that way is the usual RW disingenuous deflection.

I didn't say he had to ANSWER the question. I merely implied that it needs to be demonstrated when he WON'T answer a question.

It's called 'accountability'... something an authoritarian like Trump doesn't understand.

More nonsense. No one, much less a President, is "accountable" to the press. The press has no rank or authority. They are simply reporters, not the story.

The POTUS is not required to answer questions. I like Norman's idea. Give him every opportunity to bare his fat butt publicly. The result might be no further press conferences. Cool.

So now I'm hearing that Mr. Trump will give back Acosta WH credentials, but wants the press to "act with more decorum".
