    From the BeeB
Police are responding to reports of a mass shooting at bar in Thousand Oaks, California.
Police say at least six people, including one officer, were injured when gunfire broke out the Borderline Bar and Grill at about 23:20 local time on Wednesday.
It is not yet clear if there are any fatalities.
Footage broadcast on local media showed people being carried away from the scene, apparently with bullet wounds.
Police say they are still working to get the scene under control. They cannot yet confirm if the suspect is on the loose.
The bar was hosting a college country music night on Wednesday, according to its website.
Witnesses who were at the bar are describing a scene of panic.
Reports say the suspect may have used smoke grenades as well as a gun in the attack.

The definition of stupid has got to be the belief that more guns will negate the bloodshed done with guns.

California is arguably one of the strictest gun regulation states out there. What caused this, what allowed this, and what motivated this has my interest.

Your notion of "strict gun regulation" would be quaint and cute if it weren't for the carnage it supports.

What are you doing about it?

I sure hope none of you have to hold your friend’s hand and try and help her come to terms with unplugging her brain dead son who’s face was blown off as he ran from a would be robber.

Not directly sleek, I didn't know the victim but, there are thousands who have gone through similar situations. I'm appalled to hear any killings, I bleed a bit every time one dies uselessly although it's becoming practically a daily event and I'm becoming numb now.

    Just dispicable!.

It’s just a problem we HAVE to face up to. Too many people are shooting too many people, period.

    End of discussion.

The solutions are... well, complicated doesn’t even begin to address the solutions. There are no pat answers, no easy answers, and really no simple way to deal with where we are.

But, we have to deal with it in a way that citizens don’t shoot each other with regularity.

    Peace,
    Robert

Recent studies have proved that there are less gun deaths in states where the gun laws are stricter, Sleek.

As to motivation, what does it really matter? He was having a bad day, so he excercised his 2nd Amemdment rights.

So tell me, does the gun lobby pay a price for this? Does any politician that supports the status quo on guns?

How many politicians who support the gun lobby, and who are supported by the gun lobby, lost election two days ago?

A majority of voters want changes to the gun laws, but they vote for people who do not because other issues are more important.

How do you accomplish change so long as that is the case?

I think what Sleek may be saying is that California already has the kind of stricter gun laws most who call for new nationwide laws desire. There is no right to own a gun in Cailfiornia; Testing is required; All sales must be through a registered dealer;Assault weapons and automatic pistols may not be owned; " No Issue," of concealed carry permits for urban residents; etc

It seems that a semi-automatic pistol can be owned.

He had a Glock .45 handgun...the gun was purchased in Ventura County

It does seem to recur quite a lot, doesn't it?

Maybe we should also discuss the issue of PTSD and what 15 years of war does to a society.

For certain war desensitizes people. Makes doing horrible things easier by breaking down mental barriers. People eventually get comfortable doing what was once unthinkable. However, that cant be THE reason or all war vets would be doing these things. Perhaps he wouldnt have if he hadent learned the mind set to be capable, but that wasnt what pushed him.

Swiftian in its depth. I salute you.

There was just under one mass shooting a day in 2017. You've 53 days and 39 to go to match that total.

I'm no expert, Jimmy. Just going by Wikipedia's description of California gun laws. Maybe some people--police, security, etc are allowed?
    Perhaps the gun was stolen?

America doesn't know what "strict gun laws" are. Try ours, or Australias, but then, we have only a tiny fraction of the death rate per capita.
We cant brag, there are still the occasional idiotic actions, but its very uncommon.
Sad to hear about yet another massacre. I've no idea how to fix that.

    GUNMAN

Not brown, not part of a caravan, not an radical Islamic terrorist. Just another white american with a gun

    screen-shot-2018-11-08-at-10-39-53-am.jpg

Ian David Long, a 28-year-old former United States Marine, has been identified as the suspect in the Borderline Bar & Grill mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, California, that left 13 people dead.
According to authorities, Long — who reportedly drove his mother’s car to the scene — entered the Borderline Bar and Grill around 11:20 p.m. PST on Wednesday, November 7, and deployed a smoke bomb before he began open firing with a legally purchased .45 caliber handgun.
Police say that the murder weapon, a legally purchased Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun, was bought by Long in 2016.
At this time, while Long’s motive for the shooting remains unknown, it is understood that he suffered from PTSD.

A marine can hardly be called just another guy with a gun. Why you chose to emphasize his whiteness, as if being white is a factor ( was it? ) i dont know.

So this guy being a marine makes this shooting completely different than almost any I have heard of. None come to mind really. Possible ptsd also makes this not standard.

I cant become an expert on ptsd to make concrete statements, but this seems rare to be a cause of a shooting. So rare to me, that I doubt it being the direct cause. Perhaps a secondary? For example, he needed help, felt he wasnt getting it, got pissed, felt he had been done wrong and to prove a point did this?
