    Default big wave

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

    Looks fake.
There should be a brown streak in the water behind him.

#1………..that wave is about to collapse under it's own weight.
#3………..is he holding a go pro in a casing?

The surfer seems over-dressed. It looks like he's ready to scale a cliff and storm a castle. Didn't we used to wear just a swim suit to play in the surf?

I don't care to know what the tough do when the going gets tough.

#1 just a bit further along that wave a step forms and launches the surfboard into the air for a split second.
#3 the surfer holding the go pro is Ross Clark Jones, a mate of my sons.
The wave is called Shipsterns at Shipsterns Bluff just south of Hobart before Cape Roul.

That wave in pic 1 has 3 lips! It's a mutant! Looks very easy to die on that wave, not to mention it breaks very close to the rocks!

    Sometimes. Sometimes not.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

Isn't there supposed to be a shark in the wave above him?

well, I know I posted that, but being taken round the back on a jetski and then falling vertically down a sheer face for 30 or so metres.... I think ten seconds is required to claim the record, Im not sure thats surfing..... I think surfing is some peep coming in with his dog hanging ten from multi miles out for several minutes....

It's real. That photo hasn't been doctored at all. Shipsterns is between Port Arthur and Storm Bay, on Tasman Peninsula. When big, the wave hits a second shallow reef as it's breaking, causing a lower, hollower section to open up. One of the challenges surfers face is that the lower hollow means that surfers need to be either ahead of that ledge or manage a free fall. The break is right in front of high cliffs and can only be accessed by boat, jetski or a hike of several hours.

I haven't surfed there and wouldn't want to. I would like to have the courage to though! I have sailed past but that doesn't really count!
