True, not really sci-fi - but always worth a mention!

That's the only reason I didn't list Howl's Moving Castle.

The line between SF and F can get blurry in general, and *really* blurry with Miyazaki.

I read all the books last Christmas, I think the movies will be a good bit of fun, especially if you have some kids to take along.

Silent Runnings. I choked up at the end.

    Alien, of course.

    2001, of course.

Solaris. So Zen. ' Are we dead or alive? , he asked. It doesn't matter any more' she replied.

    Metropolis.

Sanctuary was the place Logan was running to. Sandmen were the hunters of runners.

Sorry. I do tend to make variable sense.

It didnít dawn on me until later in life why that movie struck such a chord. The idea of running away to a safe place really appealed to me.

Them. And of course "Attack of the killer shrews". Oops--meant "The Killer Shrews". The original, not the remake.

I first saw Metropolis aged about 16, in a gappy version with much of it missing. Music was courtesy of some 20s vinyl, played more-or-less at random.

Then the Moroder disco-y version was released, which was hardly any better.

But there's a certain something about the film.

Today, the Kino release (2010) is the one to go for. It's gorgeous.

^ Like Nosferatu with horror, so much of what we see in the sci fi genre goes back to that movie.

I hope Mortal Engines doesn't have execution issues like Jupiter Ascending or The Golden Compass.....but it looks underwhelming.

    Recent good ones:

    Moon
    Interstellar
    Tron Legacy
    New reboot Star Trek
    Big Hero Six

    Better than expected:

Both Pacific Rims(very Starship Trooper good)

Scifi isn't dead but it takes very long naps and sometimes wakes up cranky.

Just watched Black Panther; not much into marvel comic movies but I liked this one.

    No votes for "Dark Star"?

Does the recent Brit TV series "Humans" count?
