Im looking for a few knees in walnut. Rough sizes are 8x8 and 10x10. Are there any online sources that ship? Thanks

    Where from, where to?

    Where are you?
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Walnut knees will give good support if cut from twisted root stock. This is the wood used for the "Forcula", rowing post, in Venitian Gondolas.
The interlocking grain of the root stock will give excellent support. Rather than search for a lumber dealer you might contact the owner of a walnut grove for your stock. Often an old tree will die and there will be a need for replacement. Sometimes, if you arrive or ask at the right time, one can get the needed stock for just the removal of the tree. Another source would be a veneer supplier that uses walnut burl.
Other woods that will suffice are California white oak. Quercus Lobata as well as California Black Walnut.

You might have to cut your own.

In the end it will probably have been less work to have laminated the knees. They'll be more stable laminated anyway.

Much easier than sawing up limbs or tree roots that need a year to dry.

Lots of live edge slab walnut & crotch walnut for sale online. It’s not cheap because you are paying for far more than you want.

dont believe there’s an online seller of knees left, but could be wrong

I guess that depends on how much time you have on a chain saw.

Here, in Central California we have a lot of walnut orchards. We also have a lot of companies that do orchard removal for when the farmer is ready to replant or is convert the property to residential. I imagine if you are around when the orchard is being removed, the removal company would either let you have some roots or look the other way while you harvest some yourself (perhaps a 20 or a case of beer slipped to the workers would work). I also imagine they don't want to ship something like that. It is easier for them to just burn what they dig up. So, you probably need to be here at the right time in the right place.
