There is something very nostalgic about the style of your boat.

Every step is progress, but some steps really show up the character of the boat. Those windows look perfect to me! Still following along, mostly quietly...

I’m late to the party, recently noticing Tim’s posts from Facebook. Today I caught up on this thread from the beginning, and was puzzled that I could no longer hit the arrow to the next section of the thread until I realized, um, I was in the present. These posts are wonderful to follow, as I too am in a Ninigret project. I really enjoy watching your process, and am impressed by your critical eye and methodical approach (there is no other way!)

I will have much less cred with this crowd - I own up immediately that I am having the hull built for me (my neighbor Geoff Kerr of Two Daughters Boatworks). I did do a complete build of Oughtred’s John Dory ten years ago that came out well.

I took my cue from Bill Boyd, who in his seventies, had the Ninigret hull built for him by a shop in Maine, then did the rest with his son. Two years ago I visited him and had a lovely ride in Portland Harbor, where he generously let me take the helm to get a feel for things. Facing a huge wake from a large boat, I asked a little too late: “Should I slow down?” He replied, “Maybe a little bit...”. It was a little late, however his boat quartered through a large trough just as smooth as you please. I was sold. Here is his article in MaineBoats.
    https://maineboats.com/print/issue-1...tkins-ninigret

I thought Bill’s was a great idea - as I wanted the boat but did not feel up for the challenge of doing another hull - as much as I enjoyed and learned immensely from building the dory.

I am very excited to visit Geoff’s shop weekly since he started lofting a few weeks ago. He has done the building frame, stem, and a few frames. I also just reviewed all of Roar’s annotated pictures on the Atkins site, and have been in some email correspondence with him - another one with impressive skills.

I hope to have my boat sometime in June, when I will have my fun fitting out the inside. I am benefitting hugely from what you all are sharing here, and of course will have the awesome benefit of consulting with Geoff. Tim, I will certainly continue to enjoy following your progress, and not least, seeing a launch video!

    Cheers -
    Andy

Cabin sides, windshield and coamings now completed.
I have my steering now. Have the gauges on order.
Things are starting to come together maybe a little more quickly now...

Got the boat on the trailer, mostly... I still need to do some fine adjustments to the rollers and bunks. And get a bow stop in there too.
We needed to take the tires off and set the trailer on a couple low scooters.
Took the bunks off too to slide the trailer under, and then re-installed them after it was under the boat.
Good thing was I did not have to remove the one post from my lifting rig to get the trailer in under the boat.

She's out and getting some sun on Easter Sunday.
Took her out for a ride around the neighborhood to see how she rolls before going in for the DOW inspection tomorrow.
    Happy Easter!

So I've been looking at this for 5 minutes and still don't know what to say so will just shut up.

Nah! 'gratulations Tim, it sure looks good. Makes me think of Maine. If you touch it with your tongue does it taste salty?

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

    And now she is legal.
Got my HIN this morning, and with that, got a title made up.
I'll get the registration when she is closer to getting splashed.

I have been slowly getting the steering console (and it's matching mate for the other side) made up.
Posts go right up and tie in with the main cabin top beam to stiffen it up a lot. And gives a handhold when exiting the cabin.
Still in a rough state...I'll round over those posts some to make them more hand friendly.
Wheel is from my brother's dead Lyman. I like the old school look. Of course I'll pretty it up some with fresh paint.

I spent most of the day with the new owner of my (former) gunning dory...
But I did get the gauges figured out...and pretty sure on the location of the fish finder...
    Forward progress...
