Imagine the conversation with the insurance adjuster...As translated from Italian.

Adjuster: "So I see the boat was recorded as a composite build. Interesting."

Owner: "Yes, well, yes. We did use epoxy on the hull... Vincenzo, Let's not quibble about composite boats or who's fault it was... I am... my sister is not claiming the loss of her husband, my brother-in-law... if you could see that i get a full restore instead of, of, of the low replacement value number the boat had before i did the work... i think we will all be satisfied."

Can anyone tell what kind of boat that is going under the bow?

    Mirror?

Could be any one of a dozen wooden dinghies, and seeing it's in europe I likely wouldn't recognise it anyhow.

Was the feller in the dinghy OK? That could have been nastier than it already was.

I think the boat being run down is much larger then a dinghy. More then one crew also. Wonder what the outcome was.
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

    The Friday Oops!

    October 1, 2010

Haven’t had one as good as this in a while, nobody injured.

Marjatta on the left, owned by Guido Broggi (ITA) and Harlekin with owner Jean Yves Redor (FRA) on the helm during race two of the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez regatta on Wednesday. Harlekin lost her mast, Marjatta was DSQed. Three of Harlekin’s crew went overboard and were promptly picked up by spectator boats.

That race was started by Dick Jayson and was originally two boats; His Swan 44 and a 12 Metre, I can't remember which one. The race was originally called the "Nioulargue" after the buoy they raced around

In the mid 90's Tom Perkins allegedly drove his Herresshoff schooner Mariette over a 6 meter, drowning one of the crew. Perkins was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

They cancelled the race for a couple of years and it came back as Les Voiles with bette sepeation between the boats. It looks like they need to work on it.

Woh! That's an expensive boat to go under the hull of something else. Pity.
