    Default Sourcing Plans ex Smithsonian

    HI All,
Last time I did this I did it old school.
Added up the list of plans and freight and sent a money order on a New York bank as per instructions.

I had a look on line recently and it looks like the instructions are still the same.
Except times have moved on and getting a money order on a New York bank from NZ is not as simple as it was 15 years back as no one does that now.

Does any one know if we can get plans via a credit card which would be some much simpler! Even if it was from some third party.

    No Paypal?
(That has largely solved the bank draft/money order problem.)

Yup, It seems they only will take a check/ money order in US dollars. You could send me money via pay pal and I will send them my check with your mailing address.
I can call them on the phone, but have no idea what it would cost to ship a mailing tube to New Zealand, perhaps it will go as media mail?
Contact me by PM if you are interested. (It is likely I will be at the Smithsonian in Oct, whether or not that will do any good I don't know)

    The prices are:

    1. Ship Plans List/Maritime Collection: $20.00
    2. The Maritime Administration Collection of Ship Plans (1939-1970): $15.00
    3. The Smithsonian Collection of Warship Plans: $15.00

Foreign orders may obtain airmail by adding an additional US $5.00.
Accepting Paypal would require a change in their process. The Smithsonian is run by (un)civil servants who are terrified of change. (To be fair, most of the civil servants I knew in DC were a decent bunch of hard working people.)

    Thanks Canoeyawl,
I may take you up on that offer. Will PM you later if I need to get replacement copies. Could be some weeks.
