Default The stupid definition of bias

    "having an opinion"

Thus the enormous effort expended by many to insist that they are "independent", "vote for the man, not the party" and the rest of their weaseling.

If you say you are independent, you have an opinion, so by your definition you are biased, so if you accuse someone else of bias you are also intellectually dishonest and hypocritical.

Or just plain stupid. Either way, deplorable.

See, e.g. the House hearings on FBI and Justice Department oversight.

Idjits. They got nothing... so they're bringing their own PigPenPudding to the party, and stirring it in to muddy the tea.

Yep. I was watching some of it today. Idjits want to let the criminals go free and put the police in jail. I simply cannot understand how the GOP will ignore the Russian meddling and do everything in their power to cover for Trump.

It's all about normalising aberrant behaviour and stoking prejudice into a permissible state of mind.

That is a brutal and succinct way of putting it.

Not sure what you mean, but just guessing, I would say no. Bias has to do with how you respond to new information. The opinion you have at the time can be well-substantiated or it can be a sloppy POS. A long process of biased response to new information builds a sloppy POS opinion. But bias is the mechanism, not the result.

It's difficult to explain how stupid their conception of bias is. One feels people couldn't possibly think that way. It's like explaining that the earth is round.

Do you really think that after a long day, the doctor and the nurses don't take a few moments to laugh and talk about, did you catch that guy, what an ***hole. Or the dentist, the EMT technician, the proctologist? And how about politician X, what a douche? And that party, what idiots. You know ordinary people talk like that at work, if you're at all normal; and that professionals are ordinary people.

Does having an opinion mean you can't get good medical treatment from that doctor? Of course not, and this is part of what being professional means. If you really don't know this, you are laboring under a severe defect from too little exposure to reality, or you're intellectually dishonest, pretending not to know what you really do know, or, you're stupid.
