So I'm not the only guy here who still appreciates plain jane options on trucks? Bare metal interiors, vinyl seats (perhaps with a truck stop seat cover) and vinyl floor mats. . .

Since about 1998 or so its become increasingly difficult to buy such a trim package on a domestic truck, and in the last decade an impossibility on a Japanese truck.

I don't care about the interior - but try finding a used pickup with a single cab & 8 ft. bed.

Oh - the Tundra comes in a "work truck" package - basically what you describe.

When one lights up your daughter's face this well, it is a good 4x4...

At one point, my sweetie wanted to get a Gelandewagon. She really liked the simple, spartan interior. But mostly she liked the looks. Unique... and butch. Then I explained how expensive it'd be to buy gas for, and to maintain. She swung the other way - into a Honda Fit.

    How about a modern 4X4 - a Nissan concept I could see owning --

I agree with the above, -- when I bought my 2004 Tacoma, I found a 4 cylinder / automatic with short cab and short bed (4WD), but had to dealer trade for it from 320 miles away.

I love those little early scouts. Before I got the Ghia I was considering one of those, but evidently too many other people love them too, because it sold for 3x what I was willing to pay.

Here's one nearby that's in MUCH better condition... $8000 with rusted-through frame, I'm rather surprised it's been on the market this long.

this concept came out of chrysler a few years ago, called the 'mighty fc'
but they can't build it for real, there's no way to make it pass front end crash tests. . .

check out those super trick portal axles

Just one - a tired FC170. They were cool rigs indeed.

Had one of these though yellow - converted from the anemic 6 cyl to an American Motors 327 truck engine:

my favorite detail of the mighty fc in #64 is the wheels, which let the hub be the first step in the climb up to the cab.
