Part of the problem is that there are a lot of women who prefer not having to deal with major decision making, enough that it sets a standard, and since men are just plain more aggressive to begin with it carries through where it shouldn't. I've known and worked with guys on carpentry crews who would much rather not make decisions too. They sleep better than the decision makers, I suppose.

One of the things I most deslike about being a single woman is that nothing happens unless I make it happen Surely men get tired of that too.

Early in my career I worked in a design office led by a female naval architect. She was what a boss should be - empathetic, decisive, knowledgeable, and funny. She had a tough job, too, leading an almost exclusively male staff in a decidedly male-dominated industry catering to a then almost exclusively male client - the Canadian Navy. Plus, she had excellent fashion sense and looked fabulous every day. Her only fault that I could tell was her heavy Chinese accent sometimes made conversing with her a bit difficult (especially in casual conversation), but I'll chalk that up to my bad listening, not her bad speaking. Or maybe I was just distracted. Did I mention she looked fabulous every day?
Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

While i am no woman, i understand while many feel better not making decisions. I am extremely empathetic and would never ask somebody to do something i wouldn't do. Having said that, i am a supervisor at work and i often refer to myself as the reluctant leader. It seems to work, people like working under me and we get a lot done, more so than the wannabe dictators.

I honestly wish MORE women would step up and take on leadership roles and MORE men would sit down and shut their yaps when they do.

Considering the salary gap between men and women, a person would be a fool to hire a man; you could get a better woman, for less!

Duh...because women have weaker bodies and smaller brains than men...duh!
Women need a man to give them directions and herd them around and protect them from bears and alligators. Women, with their small brains, are good at menial tasks such as grinding corn and serving the man who captured her.
    Hell, this ain't that complicated!
This is the 21st century...how much longer before women learn to appreciate how much they owe men...especially men like me who don't mind wasting their time helping a woman think for herself like I tell her to think. Call me a Humanitarian!

Sometimes I wonder if John lives on the same planet as the rest of us. Trying to recall a woman who let a man make all her decisions, coming up blank.

Was informed recently that I no longer need to open the door of the car for my wife. She says she is perfectly capable of doing it herself. She does want me to drive and click the door open so she need not wait. She gets angry when my arms are full and I haven’t opened the door before she arrived at car.

My current car has remote start on its key fob. This is good since my previous remote starter always complained when he had to run out into the snow with just his boxer shorts on to start my car for me. The neighbors are happier too.

My wife and daughters are very independent. I have encouraged them for the last 40 years. My wife drives most every where we go and she is able to do anything but weld because I never taught her that, or at least that is what she told me. Women have a brain and men have a

I must have been ambiguous. I was referring to men passing laws, or failing to pass laws, that actually involve women.

i see a direct correlation between acting on a woman's behalf in personal interactions and passing laws that apply to them.

Clearly from the responses, you were being ambiguous. I debated whether to address what you meant, or what you literally said.

I think the problem of "having things decided for you" is much bigger than just men passing laws which control women and other men. There is real research which indicates that certain types of personalities want to be managed, and other types resent that strongly.

But the fact is that there are no fully cooperative societies.

And it isn't just homo sapiens that hasn't ever built such a society.
