Hello. When this Schooner was launched in 1985 she had bare decks of Alaskan yellow cedar 1 7/8" X 1 7/8" vertical grain .
Cotton caulked ,Payed with Jeffery's Marine glue, Under supervision of Mr. Bud McIntosh.....No Luck The stuff just turned to crumbles ,like coffee grounds. It had not been overheated . Reefed it out ,set up cotton, Painted the seams and tried again, Not a few months and it crumbed again. The story,at the time was that Jeffery's had a big legal problem from a very fancy yacht with white carpet and upholstery..Which ended up with bits of black from the decks..
The outcome was that they put talc powder or some other filler in..... turned a great product into trash..
Finally gave up, reefed it out ,put steel sash putty in and painted the decks , Now some 30 + years later ,No leaks .. Times change.
    cheers len
