Default What is the Sailboat in this Movie Trailer?

The new Mamma Mia movie has a lovely sailboat (Herreshoff looking to me) in the trailer. (FYI-This is a movie that the proverbial wild horses could not drag me to).

Warning: Leave your sound turned off if, like me, you have a low tolerance for schmaltz.

    Boat appears at 2:02.

OK What's the deal with capitalization on this forum? I mean, spell check is bad enough, but this is really annoying.

It goes by so fast that i can't say for sure, but, it looks like a C D Mower or Lester Stone design.

Those scenes were filmed in Croatia, so perhaps a Med charter?

My first thought was Crosby's boat but I think she's a little smaller than his. It went by so fast it was hard to tell.

Yes David's boat is an Alden Design. I know her well as I spent an entire summer next to her in Lido Shipyard when he first bought her. There is a mahogany panel below that has some amazing grain pattern.

Does look like Crosby's boat but too small.

Yes Garret, I noticed that as well.

David Crosby’s boat “Mayan” is owned by forum member Beau Vrolyk. She is in Calfornia.

Mayan, that's her name. I forgot at the time I was typing last night.

But the boat in the clip is a ketch.
Someone will have to take one for the team , and watch the whole movie.

This help? Googled Mamma Mia 2 Sailboat. This came up, amongst others. Can anybody tell now? It's not an LFH Bounty. Sure is a pretty one though.

It looks very Cheoy Lee, except for the round portholes.

The ketch in #15 is an Alden, smaller sister to this:

I know whats going to happen because its what happened last time. Every bay will again resound to the sound of whiny old farts howling on about Fernando.

Hey guys, the boat in the new Mamma Mia II movie is definitely a Herreshoff design. Name: Bel Ami, built 1931 in Italy owned by a friend of mine. If somebody is interested in detailed information just let me know.

What's the history of the boat?

Yes Bel Ami originally was constructed as a pure racing sailing boat without any cabins and engine. It was designed by Harreshoff and built at a shipyard somewhere in Italy. I have to get back to my friend to get more information about where exactly.
It also originally had a “gaffel” Tackelage - hope this is the right English expression - different to the sails that can be seen on the picture. In the 50s or 60s a Mercedes Benz engine and also the cabin was mounted. In this condition the boat was bought by my friend in the 80s The dimensions are round about 50ft length. Further detailed information about the history and the dimensions and about the dimensions I also have to ask my friend. What would you like to know?
    Regards
    Christian

Margo posted on FB a very funny review of Mamma Mia II from The Onion. It had me laughing out loud, and described my attitude to a "T".

I won't link it because it has foul language. Google, The Onion, Mamma Mia review.
