    Default When salads go wrong...

Just heard on the local news of a 12-y-o kid who called 9-1-1 to get the police to stop his mom from making him eat his salad. When they didn't show up in a reasonable amount of time (according to him), he called a second time to berate them for their tardiness.

The police didn't say whether they levied the available fine on him for his frivolous call, they did say that they didn't intervene in the salad assault.

    Some people's kids, eh?

Seems entirely reasonable to me. I mean c'mon, this is a life or death thing to a 12 YO!

Hope the police at least had a talk with the parents...

And the kid at the same time.

She probably put cilantro in it. I’d call the cops too.

The law allows a fine of around $675 per offence of making frivolous calls to 9-1-1.

He was not fined, but the police gave him a tongue lashing. ( But not brutal. )

    His father was not amused.

Sounds OK, as long as no jelly involved. As far as salads are concerned, I live on them at the moment. It's the jelly that turns that thing into a vision of hell.

Go right ahead - parsley is a waste of green.

Isn't it funny how strong reactions are to Cilantro - it's a true love/hate thing.

We grow it in profusion, but different people seem to get different tastes from it.
The possums love it, and growing it in summer is a task. I move a planter down beside the creek and put a wire crate over it from december to april.

i love cilantro. Nothing like a ham swiss cilantro and pickle sandwich on rye. And on salads.

It can happen, enthusiasm, distraction, memory lapse, and the next thing you know there’s blueberries, bacon and chilis in a romaine salad. I confess. Still I’d rather enjoy the mayhem of my own creation than a restaurant salad swimming in 1/4 cup of vinegar.

You are a generous Emperor indeed and I am humbly grateful for these kind words. I am sure so horrifying an object as that which is depicted would never be allowed to defile Your Majesty's imperial table as it would never be permitted to disgrace the rough hewn board of my own pitiful hovel.

It is an unmistakable proof of the sweet clemency of Your Majesty's heart and the nobility of Your Majesty's nature that the creators of such abominations are permitted to dwell unmolested in Your Majesty's realms.

You have a table?! Such wanton luxury...

Remember, too, I am only Emperor of about 1 square meter. Outside the safety of the borders of my realm, I am a stranger in a strange land.
They laugh at me because Iím different. I laugh at them because theyíre the same.

Yes. I'm that way with whiskey. I'd just as soon consume acetone, and the stink it leaves in a person is enough to make me gag from 6 feet away.

I don't like wine either, it's a total waste of perfectly good and usually delicious fruit juice.

Cilantro, which tastes foul to me, is nothing compared to whiskey or wine, and that jello salad would have been a real treat for us kids growing up.

Well, I do like Ricard in ice water, or just a smidgeon of it in a 50/50 mix of fruit juice and fizzy water, and rum is pretty good in a pina colada, but straight? EEEWWWWW!

    You might try different rum.
Heated to a full rolling boil and eaten hot, that jello salad might not be completely disgusting.
    Cilantro? Whatever....
