Default MYSTIC 2018—who's in?

Looking forward to our annual trip to Mystic for the Woodenboat show. Last year was great and a joy to meet with other forumites. Any interest in another meetup?

Again, I must cry off. Far too long a drive for me anymore and the cost is too much for lodging and food. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend an that the weather is just superb for everyone.
I heartily recommend the booth of "Mystic Knotwork" to everyone, their ropework is excellent and Matt is the grandson of Alton Beaudoin, one of the premier fancy rope workers on the Mystic area in the 40's - 70's. Grandpa would be proud of him.
Have fun and hoist a "Dark and Stormy Daniels" for those of us who can't attend.

I'm hopeful, but not optimistic. My schedule is filling fast.

Alix and I will be down again this year but we are going for the whole three days this time!
Jamestown Distributors gets a couple booths and they got an extra one for us! So we will be next to JD as vendors so come find us and say hi, not sure how much time we will get to go wander around since we have to man the booth.

We also need some place to crash those couple nights if anyone knows of a good option. Don't need much, a place to park the truck and throw some bivy bags on the dirt would suffice.

Bloody 'Ell... SOMEONE go eat lobstah and attach a photo (or eight) thereof? In Tennessee, "lobster" refers to a Revolutionary War British Infantryman. Yecch!

Would love to find a free place to stay Friday night. Anybody got a boat on dock or water I could crash on?

Thats it for pics so far. We were pretty late getting down to the Show. We’ll be heading back over in a little bit, though.

I was pretty bummed that I missed this panel discussion, now I need to track down someone who went and get them to tell me all I missed:

I would have liked to hear the panel discussion, too. I wonder if it was videotaped.

Meanwhile, Alpha Centauri set a course record at the Royal Ascot!

In the future, the WB Show should require that male attendees wear tails and women sport huge, over-the-top hats. It adds a touch of class. Simply smashing!

Thanks for the pics. How was the "I built it myself" section? That lawn looks a bit sparse of boats.

The I Built It Myself section on the lawn did seem a little sparse. There were way more boats last year. But some Forumites took home awards. Jim’s Calendar Islands Yawl won for best owner built sailboat and Howard Sharp’s LFH double paddle canoe won for best owner built human powered boat. And Andrew Kithcen’s 21’ power boat won, too. The Coquina won best overall.

We also got to meet Wilson Fit who brought his Christina Grant down to the Show from Nova Scotia. It was great seeing Christina Grant after reading about her here on the forum years ago. He’s been busy sailing her all over, including single handing her to Scotland. He also won an award, maybe best owner maintained sailboat.

I wonder if if the weather forecast kept people away. The 90% chance of thunderstorms that were predicted ended up being just an hour or so of drizzle. It never really rained at all.

And we were fortunate enough to get a ride in Ned’s boat. His three years of hard work have sure paid off, she’s a stunner.

    Here’s a cute little coracle:

Thank you, Mr. Bauer... those of us who couldn't make it really appreciate the pictures, and thanks to the other posters as well.

Did the "gam" at the Oyster House come off?

Not so much really, a few regulars showed but soon left, but got to meet forumite David who had motored up the Mystic river in his 22 foot Devlin Surf Scoter which he kept in the anchorage above the Seaport Museum. Really great guy and it was an honor to meet him. That's David on the right.
