Default Audio on my computer just crapped the bed

I woke up this morning, and no sound. Any suggestions? A Toshiba laptop running Windows 10.

    Reboot.

Mine does it too. But if I plug my little Bose speaker into it, no problem.

I tried re-booting, no soap. Maybe it's a message from God to get out more!

Also, empty the computer's Clipboard. And clear out the internet cache of cookies and whatnot.

I hate to be a bother, but how do I clear out the sucker's clipboard?

Hardware wears out. Check your audio jack and your speaker/amp/power supply connections with a multimeter. . .after you’ve ruled out a software glitch, of course. But a lot of your laptop is nothing fancy, just basic electronics—and relatively straightforward to fix or replace parts.

Maybe wait for the next Windows 10 update?

The only other suggestion is to turn it off, wait a while then turn it back on.

Uncheck “mute” in the corner of the screen.

A few dollars should get you a USB audio interface capable of driving headphones or an external amplifier.

Maybe it has different tastes than you. Try playing different music. LOL.

If you have any devices that link up with Bluetooth, you might be able to connect to your laptop that way. Some home audio players have it. Our Tivoli radio has it. I can connect it to an iPad and play music through the radio. If you can do that, it could isolate the problem as a hardware glitch.

On my laptop the F1 to F12 keys have secondary functions-one turns off sound.Does your machine have anything similar?

^Yeah, running across the top. F 11 has a speaker icon. Pushed that, no joy. Some combination of keys?

Hi Steve. A control panel that comes up from an arrow bottom right. It's showing speakers at 100%.

    Hi James!
I've bought myself a multimeter https://cozzy.org/best-multimeters/ so I can test the amplifiers in ym system to see if they're getting enough voltage to give out the power they're supposed to give out, but i'm curious as to which setting on the multimeter do I need to set it to in order to do that. I just tested a 9v battery to practice and set the multimeter to 20 volts and got a reading of 7.83 volts. I live in the uk, so would I set the multimeter to 200 volts or 600 volts to check the amplifiers output at the speaker terminals?

If it's an analog meter set the multimeter to the highest voltage setting and measure what you are measuring. If it doesn't register then lower the setting and test again until it does. Digital volt meters should automatically scale to display the voltage.

Was the multimeter set to read AC volts or DC volts?

Many meters use diode rectification for ac, this commonly gives a 1.2 volt drop.

You will need to give us a lot more information to get useful replies on audio power measurement...

I think it stems back to the last W10 update. It got the audio on all myW10 machines, and has been a subject of much profanity on Reddit (It isn't easy to spot an increase in profanity on Reddit).

It reset all my audio and Bluetooth to default. 20 minutes of re-tweaking fixed it.
