The convictions were vacated. That does not mean they did not occur.

It wasn't a matter of powerful friends. It was a matter of the extent of immunity previously granted.

I certainly didn't mean to imply that they didn't occur - as I'm sure they did - I was just stating what happened. I will admit that I don't remember all the details, but I'm sure he got the immunity because of "friends".

    Having difficulty understanding immunity?

You should bone up on the nature and limitations of immunity—it’s going to be pivotal in the way things play out over the next year, especially in the terms of the Pandora’s Box conundrum in regard to your president’s legal situation...

Wait, there was no cyberwar in the civil rights days? That's why they had to shoot M.L. King with a rifle, eh?

Ollie North is a Hero in only one twisted alternate universe. Among right-wingnuts in Amerika.

He was guilty of felonies and convicted by a jury of his peers but the conviction was overturned on a technicality.

Ollie North is a POS and the perfect man for the job to head up the lobbying arm of the gun industry.

It is good to remember that Oliver North's convictions were overturned not because he was innocent but because he had testified about doing the illegal acts before Congress under immunity. He still lied to congress, destroyed evidence and broke the law (Boland Amendment). I'd argue he also broke military oath to "support and defend the Constitution" which may speak more to his character than law but character counts.

What is the old saying "You are known by the company you keep"? Just one more black mark against the NRA in my score-keeping book.

The company you keep. I've never 'kept company' with Mr. North. Don't know him from Adam, as the saying goes. I do know, from personal experience, that humans are fallible. How his appointment to the NRA, as some head honcho, that isn't going to play much one way or the other with me, it's superfluous.

The need by some to 'virtue signal' is superfluous to me.

So who are you hangin' with these days, my friend from yore? Goin' sailing any?

Working to get this Drascombe Lugger back up to snuff, I've thought about the last guy I went sailing with, Joe Dupere. He and I dunked it and sailed around Bucksport. I was dismayed to hear of his untimely demise. I assume C dog has passed on?

If you're ever 'round Orrington I'll try to give you a sail.
