Thanks, Dunc. That was excellent. I hope it consoled and evoked a couple snickers at the same time.

Damn! I obviously didn't check in here often enough, and I didn't realise that Peter had passed. That is sad news indeed. My sincerest condolences and best wishes to his family, and those of you who have been so close to him these last few months. If there is any charity crowd-funding being organised count me in.

This evening I've been alternating between quiet joy that I knew Peter, and a deep wellspring of sadness he's gone. And even though we said goodbye collectively today, I think I'll be personally saying goodbye to Peter for quite a long while yet, even though I've been saying goodbye to him since he went into care at the beginning of the year.

Thanks for everyone's kind comments. I'm deeply touched by them and through me, Gary, and Jeff and Anne who drove the 1700km to be here today, Carol knows that a global crowd has her back and that of the whole Sibley family.

I just, the other day, placed a set of plans given to me by another wonderful friend inside the tube Peter sent me the Blue Moon plans in. Only the most special rolled up pages go in there.
And, there, on the outside, is Sibbo’s own hand. Ink from his pen.

It’s near my great grandma’s Bible and grandfather’s teddy bear. I never met or knew them, either, but the effects they all had on my life are so real and lasting. The artifacts, to me, the only being. The energy imbued in those objects is all I know of the physical beings. The two people bestowing my genes, and the one the strength to dream.
That tube now forms the spine of my new personal shrine. Too many additions of late...

Like everything, I have taken so much more from here than I’ve ever even thought to give, than I am capable of giving.

I don't think you're ever done saying goodbye to a good friend.

A friend of mine who I worked with and built boats with for fun passed away a number of years ago to cancer at far, far too young an age. Robert still comes to mind regularly. As Ed Harrow correctly notes, early on, the memories are like a rough stone and become smooth and comforting to the touch over time.

I had a dream one night that a bunch of friends were simply standing around in the kitchen shooting the breeze and having a beer. Robert was there in the kitchen with us, talking about boats, and life in general. At some point, he put down his empty glass on the counter, said that he had to go and came over and gave me a hug before heading out. I awoke soon after - the reality of the visit was crazy - slightly disturbing and comforting at the same time.

Kudos to all for supporting Peter, family and friends. Well done.

I was walking up a ramp in a shopping centre today and glanced at a bloke walking towards he, it gave me a start because I thought it was Peter. A second glance and I realised there was barely any resemblance...weird feeling.

Been off line for a few days. Technical issues.

I am asking permission to publish this thread in a very limited edition of bound pamphlets for Carol and the family.

I will also ask on a seperate thread.
If anyone does not wish their contribution to be included please let me know, presuming of course that I do have general permission.

There has been talk of starting a thread in memory of Peter called something like Sibbo’s Shed where the signature would be Optimists only beyond this point.

I had precisely the same experience today! Haven’t slept well the past few nights. The actual sleeping bit is fine. It’s the getting there and staying there bit that isn’t. Peter is all in my mind now and it feels weird.

I've thought about this a bit since I replied. While it is decent of you to ask our hosts for permission, I think it is probably not strictly necessary given that you are not doing it for profit, and the limited copies could properly be construed as for personal use, given the circumstances.
How many copies are you thinking of? I'm thinking less than a dozen.

On a parallel level, today I read, as I do every time I visit the forum, the most recent posts on the thread on vintage sports and racing cars which was started by Peter. It has over ten thousand replies! How he loved those Austin seven sports variants and the like! That thread will live on I'm sure!
