Happy birthday Duncan. Just got back from visiting Peter, he’s quite chirpy today. Carol was there as well, so it was good to catch up with her as well.

    Thanks Gaz!
Carol was just leaving as I arrived and Nick was there as well, but we had to spend half the time out of the room, because Peter needed attending to. He seemed pretty chirpy when I got there, but after all the palaver he was quite zonked and a bit delerious, so I gave him a bit more cake that he requested, and a bit plum wine and let him sleep. Nick had to head off to pick up his MIL from Tugan and take her up to Brizzy, so he couldn't stay.

Great to hear Peter had a room full of friends and was in good spirits. Despite the palaver (five dollar word there, my friend!)

A Duncan birthday inspired cheer to all who bring brightness to our friend Peter, and support to Carol!

He certainly was more with it this morning. He’s not happy about not being at home but given the level of care he requires I don’t see how that would work. If he fell there is no way Carol could pick him up, even going to the toilet requires the equivalent of a travel hoist. His back is giving him pain and the cough is not getting better.
i wish there was more I could do, anyway I see him early next week...unless he does make it to Duncan’s party.

Not a chance he'd make to my drinks. Zero. He appears to be completely bed-bound now.

[ETA: Just saw your comment and posted, but...] No. The decline is consistent although its daily chart of it appears up and down, the trend is unchanged. His time has become elastic to him. His delirium is more evident when he says he has to do something when he's barely able to speak at times.

When I last spoke (3 days ago) he kept dropping in and out of the subject until I raised Jim. Then I got his thoughts about Lee Cloths, rowing and the cover for when Jim was not being used. The boat seemed to concentrate his mind.

Still checking in here, not sure what to say. Other than "Thank you" to all who are doing so much for Peter and his family, and for keeping us informed about how he is doing.

I also keep checking in and applaud those that are doing what they can.

May be hard to transport but if I was laid up and wanting something a nice ice cream sundae out on the lawn would be perfect on a nice spring day.

    Best wishes Peter.

Being so far away around the globe, all I can do is to add my thanks to all of you who are physically supporting Peter. I'd been off this forum a while and only looked this up after I'd noticed Peter had gone quiet on Facebook. Whoever sees him next, please pass on my well-wishes and greetings.

The delirium is to be expected. Be glad for the moments when he's present, but expect him to go off on tangents and be overwhelmed with the effort. Listen for the stories, and make space for him to fill. The process is so very sad, and just keeping him comfortable is a major piece of work. In a few days or maybe a week or so he will start to vanish entirely. Then touching him, holding hands, rubbing arms and shoulders, will be unconciously understood as loving and caring.

We are all so thankful for your care, and presence, and thoughtfulness.

And for keeping us in the loop, and so close to the task.

At least it doesn't sound as if Peter is in too much pain at the moment. It is to be hoped it stays that way. This must be very hard on Duncan and the others who are actually with Peter, they have more guts than I have for sure.

He seems to like pizza so maybe savoury, spicy things. I'd imagine food at the home might be a bit bland. Duncan keeps him supplied with kimchi. Maybe olives, salty cheese?

He is in pain: Basically his muscles are incapable of supporting him any more. But as I said to John, pain management is more on the conservative side. I don't think he likes the opiate based analgesics. But I'm sure they'll come again, and sooner rather than later.

I'll visit again tomorrow. And it is hard. Utterly confronting every time. So this thread is more important to me and Gaz' than you might imagine!

Delirium - so real; tho I wasn't really delirious, I was comatose, but what I 'experienced' was so real I could touch, hold, and smell it. It was very difficult for all of us as I didn't believe them, and it took a long time for me to figure out who was right.
