One of my all time favorites. To me the emotion in a song has much more to do with the notes than the lyrics. There is no doubt this is a sad song even if you donít understand the Spanish lyrics.

Originally written in 1946 by Peewee King, it has seen many memorable recordings including Patti Page and Patsy Cline. But I think these two do a great arrangement of it as well. Definitely a sad song.

[QUOTE=Keith Wilson;5535829]This one even has a wooden boat. Nobody drowns, but it's bad enough. It's based on a real incident, which makes it even sadder.

More Gordon Bok. This one has a drowning, and somebody crippled for life.

    Emmylou's song, but I like Shannon's version.

Great Thread. Wish I had something to add, but one of mine has already been included.
A society predicated on the assumption that everyone in it should want to get rich is not well situated to become either ethical or imaginative.

This is a great thread, here's my contribution. I lost a dear friend to cancer a couple of years ago, and this song comes to mind every time I think of him and his family.
