What other item do you have or think should be included/excluded(from above list).

I have been thinking about this with my new to me sail/oar skiff and one thing I would add to the list is a "72 hour kit", having lived my life in the southwest US I was raised to always have one in every vehicle.
Rations,water,a fire source,blanket, first aid kit................ect. , now this may not apply to the way everyone will use their dinghy/skiff but for us it does as the large lakes that are on the Colorado River will be our playground and extended shore camping trips are planned and ending up out linger than expected is always a possibility.

Would that small outboard want a fire extinguisher? Local regs would also require an "audible signalling device" like the whistle attached to most life vests.

Neither my wife or I have , or want, an outboard on our dingy. (We each have our own dingy)I mostly sail mine, Jan mostly rows hers. Both our dingys are “hard”.
We are freaks in today’s cruising world though.
Of course most here know of my 2 cycle devil boats at home,but I’m actually very “ Mc mullenish” in the Caribbean.

Resinante carries a nog of lead, ballast and anchor. She has two inflatable zode seats alongside the cb trunk.Two stout oars and thole pins.Her rig can be reefed WAY down, every quarter turn is a reef.Cell phone is usually in a pelican box, two bailers, one tied.

Lashed into the boat:

Oars, crutches (with lanyards!) bailer, anchor and line, mast, lugsail wrapped round yard and boom.

In plastic box in buoyancy compartment:

Two red hand held flares, one white flare, one buoyant orange smoke flare

In another plastic box, in the other buoyancy compartment

Torch, dinghy compass, chocolate bars, knife.

Hand held VHF lives in jacket pocket.

I think how the boat will be used is important in deciding what goes in it. If you sail around the Med or Caribbean in short hops and stay close to port, you'll likely have different gear on board that if you regularly conduct long blue water passages across large oceans.

Best thing in my dinghy is the automatic bilge pump and motorcycle battery kept under the center thwart. I keep LAZURUS, a Cape Dory 10, at the dock at our marina and it is always bone dry when we come to use it. The oars are there too, held in place by a nice WC bronze oar keeper. Right now it is upside down on the trailer.

All too often the main things kept in the dinghy are dog hairs, sand brought aboard by the dogs, poo bags for the dogs, dog hairs, dog leashes, water brought aboard by the dogs, and dog hair.

Otherwise it's a painter, repair kit, 3.3 Merc, oars and spare fuel. Sometimes a lifejacket as required by regs. Of course if we go further or snorkelling there's a folding bailer (to comply with the regs, boat is basically self-draining), anchor and snorkelling gear. Sometimes there's a lock and at night, a light. And dog hairs. Oh, and did I mention sand and water brought in by the dogs?

Boat is a Walker Bay Genesis FTL 270 rib. We're delighted with it. Basically unsinkable, extremely stable, with three air chambers, etc. Rows OK. The folding transom allows it to pack down well on the cabin top. With half a ton of carrying capacity, it can carry almost all the dog hairs and sand we end up with.

No motor. When we are cruising the trash bag usually ends up there until we can find a dumpster in a marina somewhere. And the spare gas can. Talisman just has a three gallon tank and while three gallons would last a season sailing off the mooring, when out and about it’s nice to have a couple of gallons in reserve.

Mostly me and my wife these days. If it's a nice evening there might be a bag with some supplies to stave off hunger and thirst while on the beach.

Really for getting from shore to the mothership and vice versa, I'll have the outboard with its internal fuel tank. 5 litres of spare fuel. 2 oars. 2 rowlocks. Painter. Plastic milk bottle bailer. And the bung. Never go without the bung. Anything else depends on the purpose of the trip. Clothes, food, fishing stuff, beach stuff. Dog. Family. Hardware stuff/chandler stuff.

Besides oars, oarlocks, and a life preserver, I always carry a tethered bucket with a sponge and a small container of grease for the oarlocks. On longer trips, when my dinghy might have to serve as my "Plan B", I also carry a small drybag containing two bottles of water, some dried food, flashlight, leatherman, towel, compass, lighter, and flares.

o i forgot, i do actually carry some spare shear pins for the outboard prop
mostly so they are always with the motor and harder to misplace
