Default If Russia can jam our drones, can they jam our missiles?

Do they function in totally different ways?

It would be extremely bad if we fired missiles aimed at one spot and they all landed in other places
How do we form a mutiny? Our new captain is navigating poorly.

The bigger question is can they alter the GPS information used by the missiles and have engineers figured another way to confirm target locations.

I read an article in AW&ST that Israel fired 17 missiles at an Iranian camp in Syria, 13 were shot down. So yes, they can.

It would be bad if missiles were fired for no strategic benefit and increased risk of US/Russian conflict. “why’d you do it?”, “uh, it was an accident, er, oops bad intel, I didn’t think destroying people and things would actually destroy people and things.”

Virtue signalling or passing information to the Russians?

Both at once. Russia gets a chance to test. Trump thrills the rabble.

To the opening post, and not to pick on the Russians or any other adversary...Hell, can they hack our cars!? How about our lawn sprinklers!? LOL. MAD, mutual assured obliteration, takes on new meaning, don't it? Or, a paraphrase in a bow to Kubrick: "I stopped worrying and learned to love the microchip".

Risking WWIII for what? How many lives have been lost or ruined by the use of Syria as a proxy battle field? How long would the Syrian civil war have lasted without foreign intervention? Who in their right mind actually thinks any type of air strike is going to change anything? All this is is posturing and deflection, let’s bomb some foreigners MAGA.

    I’ll anwser my own questions.

The short answer is they operate in totally different ways.

I’m thinking this is America’s reality tv entertainment. Trump is providing a spectacle for the viewers.

    Yup.

CNN is all about options for breaking things in Syria, and possible Russian responses. Nobody is talking about Cohen's FBI visitors.

How come Syria sounds more and more like Spain in 1937?

No, if you mean ICBM's. They use inertial guidance. Once launched there is no communication to the missile, hence no possibility of jamming.

You probably are thinking of torpedoes, which can circle around and sink the wrong vessel.

Beat me to it. Most ICBMs were designed before GPS existed. Also, there is no GPS over the poles where ICBMs would be very likely to traverse, at least original GPS, there might be a polar system now. The same inertial guidance was leveraged in the manned space programs. I think also early 747s and the like used intertial nav on overseas flights, it's not like old air force flights where the navigator took a sun or star sight through a port.

There is now GPS coverage at both poles. Drones and sat nav guided missiles operate at different frequencies and power levels.
