We have been following the research in cell implants for years. My wife has been a type 1 for over 50 years, and my son for over 15 years now.
Stay calm, be brave....wait for the signs. Possibly precariously prevaricating.

Welcome to the club, I've had hereditary type 2 for 15 years, Dad's had it for 35 no problems with eyesight or feet that they often warn you about.
Type 2 isn't much of a problem, as long as you avoid sugar and keep taking the tablets. I've found avoiding bread and cereals helps a lot.. That's probably more important in your case as American breads tend to have more sugar than the UK varieties as well as the normal carbohydrates..
Just as Well I couldn't stand Mc Donalds Bread rolls just too sweet.

With the type 2 you can almost live a normal life. The most difficult things that I experienced so far - night feet cramps.
Other than that I just need to keep a healthy diet and keep checking when ozempic coupon is available next time.
No gluten, no sugar is a must in this case, otherwise it can really get worse.

I as DXed about 5 years ago or so. I've been intermittent fasting for two years, I have an 8 hour window of eating in every 24. This helps me control my weight and creates fewer spikes in my BGL. I also keep my net carb intake below 60 per day. I use Keto diet principals but I'm not in ketosis. The American Diabetes Association advises limiting your carb intake to 120 per day but if if I did that, I'd still be on 2 different meds. I don't generally eat anything with added sugar. I haven't had a normal dessert in over 5 years. I also cut out drinking alcohol almost totally. I have one on the holidays and that's about it. Both Alcohol and processed sugar are basically poison anyway. Studies have shown that there are no benefits to the body what so ever and both do damage. I do need to formally exercise more but seeing as I've taken maybe 6 days off in the past year, it's kind of hard to fit that in lately, but hopefully some normalcy will return in March and I can start lifting again.

My Doctor is basically astounded that I'm able to do all of this and so consistently for so long. Last year, he told me that he wanted me to lose 5 lbs in 6 months and I cam back 15 lbs lighter . . . .He's not used to anybody listen to him. He used to just prescribing more meds and reading the same script to his patients every year.

My Type 2 diabetics is hereditary, but my food addiction didn't help. Generally, folks who are predisposed to this can avoid it if they have good eating habits and move around a lot.

An extra quick tip. If I have been on an uptick with wmy weight, I'll take 3-4 weekends where I only eat one meal a day for two days. Since I intermittent fast, my stomach is not that big, meaning I cant eat a ton of food in one sitting anymore. So that one meal is usually less than 800 calories. And since I'm usually doing manual labor on the weekends, working on a calorie deficit after fasting for 12+ hours will start to burn fat stores. It's an easy thing to fast when your busy, so that's the secret.

You all who have a lil extra but aren't Diabetic can stand to follow this too.

I ask my doc for health tips and he has nothing. When pressed, he says it’s all cutting edge stuff and probably doesn’t matter. He, also, is not accustomed to healthy patients.

It's more 'not used to compliant pts', IMO. American diet is poor, and easy access to everything that's wrong. Occassionally will encounter that really motivated, strong-willed pt. Rather like seeing a Unicorn!

Picked up a new pt yesterday - nice guy, DMII for 10 yrs. His doc retired to avoid Covid; we were accessible, his family comes here, so....

He's 'decided' he will make no concessions on diet/lifestyle. None. Guess we'll chase his numbers with drugs.
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....

To the poor American Diet, I'm looking forward to the class action lawsuit against the FDA and their bullsh17 food pyramid, and the suit against food companies for pushing shi17 foods labeled healthy, and to the wine industry for lying about the health benefits of wine based on a few bullsh17 "studies". Processed carbs, sugar, and alcohol are the vastly biggest cause of preventable illness we have, that and the need for exercise.

As for your new patient. To be fair, that's typical for 95% of the Type2 folks I know. They can't be bothered to be an active participant in their health other than popping pills. Yes, it's hard. But it beats the alternative.

You do you, but no matter how you cut it, all alcohol is poison. Drink all you want, but don't lie to yourself.

Hmm... The "breakthroughs" are not all that inspiring to me. My dad was, and one sister is, diabetic. Along with at least 2 cousins. All Type 2 (which, tellingly, used to be called "Adult Onset Diabetes" but not anymore since children get it--that should tell us something--namely, that the cause is behavioral).

As far as Type 2 goes, McMike has it. The science is pretty clear that eating a low-carb, high-fat diet will maintain insulin sensitivity, because fat does not trigger an insulin response. Nor will a diet like that promote obesity, because insulin plays a huge role in storing calories as fat. And if you don't eat enough carbs to trigger an insulin release...

So when science creates expensive drug-related "breakthroughs" to avoid the simple cheap approach of eating sensibly, I'm less than impressed. And as McMike noted, when governments continue to promote high-carb diets as healthy, and when food manufacturers sell poison in the form of sugary foods, and regulators don't hold them accountable for the medical costs of the related diabetes and other health issues...

Well, that's a failure of government. That's a corporatist state allowing big business to profit by making everyone dangerously sick, and offloading the costs of that sickness onto taxpayers and health insurance premiums.

It's not far short of subsidized murder, really. But at least someone is making big profits while people in the U.S. get fatter and sicker.

That's nuts. Why would he shorten his life for a few donuts more?

That I know of and statistically, there are a good few of us here who have beaten or are struggling with opiate and heroin addiction. Quitting food is that hard. First, it's costly, then, difficult to perform, then, there's the social aspect, and then, the real addiction that is carbs, salt, and sugar. Ever try quitting an addiction that you need, in part, to survive? It's that hard. To some, a few donuts are their only pleasure. Just like drink, just like smokes, and just like drugs.

Perhaps the guy understood his addiction and decided not to even try. Thanks, I hadn't thought of it that way.
