Default Looking for the plans, location, or what I can get

I really like this boat but cannot find out where it is or the designer.
I would like to know more. Thanks for any help you can give me.

It is a sharpie design. I would build it to 40 feet.

What's the idea behind the 90 degree chine? Less leeway?

It seems to have a fixed keel and spade rudder. I don't believe it fits the sharpie concept.

The keel is retractable part way into the hull. Look closely at the keel and you will see that the zinc is positioned so that the keel can retract.
The hull design makes it less expensive to build.

I have have already built a 30 foot steel sharpie ketch with retractable centerboard.
It was a Tracy O'Brian design. The length to beam ratio was closer to 3:1

From the style of the buildings in the background I suspect Wales or western France to be the location.

The roofs are very steep as if built to get rid of snow.

The chine is not 90 It is close but it varies along the side of the boat.

A google reverse of the photo gets me this: https://www.boatdesign.net/threads/f...g.26770/page-5
Which may be where you saw it in the first place. Quite an obscure mystery.

Norwalk Island Sharpies come to mind as does a sleeked up AS29. It may be a one off or some modern adaptation of Chapelle.

Might be up the Vilaine river in Brittany. Houses are like that and hilly. That old Ford has a yellow rear plate before they changed to white and could be left hand drive.
Also in keeping with the slightly technical approach popular here.

There are several yards up there near Roche Bernard with hard standing, offering dry sailing deals. Keep it on the hard and have it dropped in the day before you arrive. Friends keep their's there and have 10 splashes p a in the deal.

I did a lot of searches for sharpies with a lifting keel, foil keel, ect. and not much comes up. Particularly not this boat.

    Don,
I don't think that the discussion is about that specific boat. It is a good discussion about many of the design characteristics.

Could the discussion of this rather unusual, some may say odd, design be related to the date of the post? 04-01-2018, 12:26 PM

Paul Fisher's Loose Moose looks very similar. You could have him draw you a 40ft version of his Pioneer. This boat looks extraordinarily narrow, or maybe its just me.

I am not sure what you are trying to say by mentioning that the keel is not in line with the center of the boat.
I believe that that centerboard keel can raise and lower. See how the zincs are positioned on the keel? I believe the keel raises up to just above those zincs. OK.... Brittany

The picture was probably taken a few inches off center. It would create that effect.

    Donald,
I'm curious why you like this design and how you plan to use the boat.

No I do not think so. I think the keel is of center for interior accomodations.

If I build this boat (big if), it would be to live aboard and visit many areas that have less than 6 feet of draft.
It would be 40 feet and have a 1/2 inch thick bottom and 3/16 sides. All other areas would be 10ga. or 1/8 inch. Maybe a ketch rig if money allows for all the extra rigging parts.

Well maybe but there is only about 3 inches of gain to one side. The trunk must be fairly massive. Any idea how they lift the keel?

    Donald,
Even at 40' she is going to be smallish inside. I like that size boat, but something 10' to 12' in beam with head room would suit me much better. I imagine your thinking this will be a pretty fast boat though.

Yes , if you look carefully , you can see how the mast is also offset in that photo.. The keel appears to be symmetrically on center.

I would think it has an electric winch set up.

Yes it should be fast. Not much rocker.
I built a 30 foot sharpie with highish cabin. With 40 feet you could get the cabin low and still have headroom.

William Gardens “Tillie Howard” sharpie design has always intrigued me.
    LOA-46’
    LWL-41’6”
    Beam-8’
    Displacement-7,515#

It uses a threaded rod to raise and lower the keel, might be interesting taking a look at as a study if nothing else.

    Electric Linear actuators. For keel?

There is a boat like this in Hasler &Macleods Junk Rig Book, I mean the hull and not the rig. It would make sense nowadays to put a secondhand bermuda rig on such a hull and it is cheaper then building a complete junk rig.

Could be a result of how she is blocked-up. Does it look like there is some weight on that keel? She may settle straight once in the water.

But the fact that more hull is showing on the port side than on the starboard side seems to indicate that the shot was taken from a point a bit to port of center...

Yet the keel looks symmetrical at it's root.I also can't see the keel being retractable with those anodes in place, maybe a reduction in draft if partly retracted but not shoal draft by most standards.

I think it is fixed. Partial retraction would not be worth the hassle of trunking and lifting gear. The anode just happens to be there. Not offset either (why?) just the photo was taken slightly off. The keel looks symmetrical, but it is only a couple of degrees off, so optical illusion and why would the mast be off centre?
